Airlocke 12,014 Posted October 19, 2009 Homecoming week sucks ass, that is, this time it does, because I have a gay ass project over it, and it causing me to lose so much sleep. It wouldn't be so bad if our football team was actually good. It's not. We currently have the fourth longest losing streak in NCAA history. Yeah, we're that bad. So anyway, I have like an hour or so before the next homecoming activity, entertain me.

Airlocke 12,014 Posted October 19, 2009 I;ve had to do about three hundred interviews(slight exaggeration) and taken about fifteen videos depicting "the spirit" of homecoming. Basically, we have form our own opinion of the purpose of homecoming after conducting extensive research, and present it in a 15 min power point presentation and a video. My impression so far, this school loves money.

Tyralak 12,068 Posted October 19, 2009 What? You don't like them making a profit? Or is it that they are doing it at the expense of the students?
Airlocke 12,014 Posted October 20, 2009 What? You don't like them making a profit? Or is it that they are doing it at the expense of the students? Kind of the second part, but not entirely. Homecoming is supposed to be an event that celebrates the school and provides an opportunity for the students to get together to produce something meaningful, our parade is the largest student run activity in the nation, but the fact that they are making money from the students and using the parade to make money from advertisements for local businesses and provide a platforms sheriffs' and politicians' campaigns cheapens the whole thing for me. I don't know, I just don't think some things should be used to make a profit. On a happier note, Mitch Albom, "Author of Tuesdays with Morrie", "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", and "Have a Little Faith"(all best sellers) spoke at the school tonight. He is still here at his book signing, which I desperately wanted to go to, but sadly sacrificed in favor of three papers that I have to write. My normal response to a speech of that caliber would be something similar to "fucking brilliant", but I'm not quite sure that fits. I have to write two papers about Mitch Albom's speech, I'll prolly post one here. The man is amazing.
Pavle of Serbia 0 Posted October 20, 2009 You shouldn't be bitter about the fact that people are paying to make your education better.
Airlocke 12,014 Posted October 20, 2009 You shouldn't be bitter about the fact that people are paying to make your education better. Funny thing, did you realize that school(of any kind or level) is the only instance in which people pay in order to do work, rather than the other way around? Praeothmin 532 Posted October 20, 2009 Funny thing, did you realize that school(of any kind or level) is the only instance in which people pay in order to do work, rather than the other way around? Actually, at school, you pay so that people may teach you things, and show you how to do the work you are asked to do. Then, you practice these new skills of yours, and you get graded on how well you understood, and how good your presentation was, and it also depends on howmuch effort you put into your work. You also learn the value of making friends with the right people, of being liked by your teachers who, just like your bosses in years later (although it shouldn't be that way), will most likely give you better grades (or jobs/responsabilities) if they like you, and if they think you like them. School is basically where you learn about life. Each year resembling more and more real life then the previous one, where finally at University level, you realize that you can be a slacker and pass, just like in real life, as long as you have the right friends, or rich parents... Airlocke 12,014 Posted October 20, 2009 Yeah, I'm glad you explained that, I wouldn't have thought things worked that way.

Praeothmin 532 Posted October 22, 2009 Well, you understanding that isn't very consistent with the other statements you've made in this thread. He only said he understood why schools charged students for being thaught, not why their homecoming should be more about advertising then the students. Something which I agree with: Homecoming for the students, and if the school feels so strongly about supporting the Sheriff's re-election, then they should organise an event just for that... Airlocke 12,014 Posted October 22, 2009 Well, you understanding that isn't very consistent with the other statements you've made in this thread. Okay, you need to shut the fuck up. He only said he understood why schools charged students for being thaught, not why their homecoming should be more about advertising then the students. Something which I agree with: Homecoming for the students, and if the school feels so strongly about supporting the Sheriff's re-election, then they should organise an event just for that... While I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from, I should tell you that my previous post was more of a sarcastic "you really thought I didn't know that?" kind of thing than anything else. I was having a crabby day. I apologize.
Pavle of Serbia 0 Posted October 22, 2009 When do I get an apology?
Airlocke 12,014 Posted October 23, 2009 You do not...well, not really. I will apologize for my irrational hatred of you, but somehow I doubt that is what you are looking for.
enigma 521 Posted October 23, 2009 Here's my apology. I'm sorry that I have not killed you yet. I will when you least expect it. I'm sorry but I cannot tell you when and how.
