Praeothmin 532 Posted July 5, 2010 OK guys, I need serious help here. Here's the situation: -Since a few days ago, my PC has stopped doing anything remotely connected to the "innertubes", or anything "Administratively". I can't launch IE, I can't start a defrag, I can't launch my System Restore, I can't uninstall software, and my online security center will not load, ever. It will, however, allow me to browse through all my folders, open documents, and copy and paste to my PC. What the fuck happened? I'm considering formatting the sucker, but before I went the old "nuke and pave" route, I wanted your opinion. Thanks.

Praeothmin 532 Posted July 23, 2010 run your anti-virus program and then Spybot S&D. Your computer could be infected. My AV is from my Internet provider, but I'll try Spybot, it's worth a try. Thanks.

Praeothmin 532 Posted July 24, 2010 Run your own anti-virus program like Avast or AVG. No luck at all. I can open files stored on the PC, but any program that can "change" something won't run. I can't even run Nero, for christ's sake...
Airlocke 12,014 Posted July 24, 2010 I'm sorry, man, but it appears as if it is reformat time.
Praeothmin 532 Posted July 24, 2010 Definitely, but it's ok, it was due, and no important files will be lost: since my last "reformat operation 8 years ago, I learned not to wait too long before burning pictures and important files on CDs, and I even keep most of my important files on my home and work PCs for added safety... Kor_Dahar_Master 0 Posted July 30, 2010 His PC loves him......ITS EVERYBODY ELSE THAT HATES HIM... Anyway i just normally turn off my PC, give it a sec or two then turn it on and spam F8 like a looney before anything happens (it could be F2 or F5 for you but F8 for me) that opens up a menu before any windows or crap loads and i get the option to use system restore from that.... I had to do it yesterday after downloading a bit of iffy porn, i only lost 2 hours and id done fuck all in those hours anyway.
Praeothmin 532 Posted August 2, 2010 Tried it, nothing worked, so I re-formatted it and did a fresh Win XP install. I'll just have to re-install everything else in the upcoming weeks...
