Proof that blasters are not KE weapons.

Recommended Posts

A major Warsie point of faith is that blasters and Turbolasers are based on kinetic damage and are not energy weapons in the same way that Phasers are. Their main reason for wanting this to be the case, is due to Borg adaptability and shield frequencies. Now, the Borg not adapting to KE weapons theory has it's holes to begin with, but that's a separate issue. This article from the Wookiepedia shows very plainly that Blasters are primarily an ENERGY weapon, as they replaced older, strictly ballistic weapons.

A turbolaser can still impart KE even though it is an energy weapon. Same with hand held phasers. Except that SW energy weapons uses KE better than the ballistic weapons whereas ST weapons impart KE as a secondary\collateral effect. Plus SW weapons are not frequency based which ST weapons are.

a laser does ke damage, but not ballistic damage.  it is like comparing cooking food or etc with flame to a gun.

you should differentiate by what you mean by ke. If you mean by when people are hit by bolts and they are pushed back? An energy beam, which is not focused enough or high energy enough to penetrate an object, if it can cause parts of the object to vaporize. Human skin and tissue does this really well.  It will cause  force, due to the expansion of vapor, and push the person back. Giving a false sense of Balistic impact.

<p class='citation'>Quote</p><div class="blockquote"><div class='quote'>Plus SW weapons are not frequency based which ST weapons are.</div></div>

Explain by what you mean by frequency based? unless they do not use any of our laws of physics, energy has a frequency. Electrons are even shown to behave like  waves. While the particle in the beam, may or may not exhibit frequency, the carrier beam will certainly have a frequency.

ever read up on particle beams irl? they are cool.

Now this is the tack the Disciples of Wong use often. They obsess over calculations and real life physics, until it disagrees with them. Then they fall back on the "well it's a made up universe" argument. That's essentially conceding defeat.

Wow. You people have really been out of touch with the versus debating scene a while, haven't you?

The main point of contention right now is whether blasters bolts explode upon contact or just transmit energy via good old fashioned light... that's somehow slowed down to less then c.

Warsies generally want it to be the latter, since that means you can calculate yield based on the recoil of weapons and the physical impact they impart. Sane people generally point out that a bolt being pure light is crazy both from a physics standpoint (given that they don't travel at c) and that it doesn't fit the visuals, which actually do show explosions at the target.

To a degree. However, certain conclusions have been based on misconceptions and downright falsehoods. Often times other things have been built on top of those wrong conclusions. I'm kind of going back to the basics on some things, and re-examining assumptions.

This is actually interesting, considering the lengths to which the Warsies went to proving that Turbolasers and Blasters were not lasers.

As has been pointed out by some people here, since Blasters and Turbolasers use energy as their main damage "giver", then they are indeed frequency-based weapons.

Enigma, since we know enrgy has a frequency, and you say SW weapons don't, then it would be up to you to prove it...

Ok Tyralak you're a fucking moron.

Of course turbolasers are KE weapons. We see the kinetic effects of stormtrooper blasters against thick walls all the back back in ANH, and right now I'm watching the latest episode of Clone Wars where we see blasters have the same exact effect.

Also, ballistic weapons are still in use. They're the primary armament of Confederacy ships. Once again, proven in the very episode of Clone Wars I am watching right this minute.

I fucking read what you posted. You said that blasters aren't KE weapons. I can screen cap from ANH if you want me to. Maybe I should, you're so fucking dense.

And yet there are still people claiming that Phasers are purely energy weapons when we see Phaser impacts projecting their targets backwards.

Yet once the Borg adapt to the Phaser's frequency, even the kinetic effect is "neutralized".

So it all comes down to:

Are Blasters slug throwers?

No, so then they are using some kind of energy to obtain the kinetic effect.

If they use energy, which releases in the form of rays, then they use frequency based weapons, to which the Borg can adapt...

Oh God not this idiocy again.

Show me one instance of a phaser impact DEFINATIVELY projecting an impact on their target, rather than the target stumbling around by being dazed after GETTING HIT BY A FUCKING PHASER BLAST

You get fucking shot by a slugthrower and you too will feel dazed and stumbled in addition to the KE impact, but believe me having seen the effects firsthand the "KE transfer" of a phaser blast is nowhere near say even a 9mm handgun.

Blasters are not slugthrowers but obviously there is a KE element to it. Meanwhile we see the Borg unable to adapt to a weapon considered obsolete decades ago.

Oh, I don't know, how about the fact that the people hit by the Phaser shots don't get up after they've been thrown down?

Just get on Youtube, and watch the fight in "Siege of AR-558".

Once the people are hit, they get thrown backwards and don't get up.

They're not dazed, they're dead... laugh.gif

As a matter of fact, except for the 1 Stormtrooper thrown back from Han's blaster impact, I haven't seen many people getting thrown backwards when hit by blaster bolts, except for the flimsy battle droids, and yet you still claim Blasters are KE and Phasers aren't... grin.gif

What weapon?

Do you mean slugthrowers?

How do you adapt to objects? huh.gif
