1 terawatt = 10,000,000,000,000 watts in power.

Name of the most power laser in world right now NIF.

What is its power output?

Do you mean how much does take to turn it on or do you mean how much enengy it makes.

Laser it self can unlease only two million joules of energy. However when it hits it target they hoping to make 500 terawatt flash of light of about .

CONGRATULATIONS, you know what tera means rolleyes.gif Do you know what a watt is?

Assuming that the output is 1 terawatt per millisecond, the most the borg cube was hit with was a a total of around 8 megatons over 33 seconds. This equates to 240 kilotons per second.

Do you understand that not only does this hurt your case here, it also ruins your case for anything? Because in order for this to be believable, then this beam (using all the power the Enterprise had) has to be more powerful than the the rest of the of the Enterprises weapons combined.

Using that calculation (which is VERY generous, I could just as easily have assumed that it was 1 TW per second (or even 1 TW over the 33 seconds, which is actually what the dialog seems to support) and made ST look like an even bigger pansy ass) and the fact that the Enterprise has 5 phaser arrays that could be brought to bear, and can fire 10 photon torpedoes in a second, and you get VERY low numbers for the weapons. Assuming that roughly 1/3 of the power is being by the phasers, you get 16 KT/s per phaser array. And a yield of 16 KT per photon torpedo. This is, ironically, within an order of magnitude of my estimate for the firepower from a single photon from evidence in STVI. This is also WELL within what we can do with modern nuclear weapons.

As an aside, the 1 TW over 33 seconds gives an equivalent of 7 KT a second. That ends up being 50 tons per photon - very close to my absolute FLOOR estimate of 10 tons. Do you really want to keep playing this game with me?

The National Ignition Facility has not fired at full strength yet. The most powerful laser currently operating is the Texas Petawatt Project at the university of texas, austin. As the name suggests, it is a PETAWATT laser. Please, keep telling me how advanced the terawatt weapons in ST are.

Address the more thorough demolition of your points above.

GEORDI also said that the amount power warp drive normal makes is terawatt. They also did not normal push warp drive to a Warp reactor core primary coolant failure either. The amount power the Warp reactor core gives off much greater amounts of power then normal when came to using the main defector dish a weapon. By way the USS Enterprise D is not normally going at warp 9.6 either. It can only maintain that kind speed 12 hours.

You do understand that the fact that Geordi said Terawatt makes me doubt that he has any idea what he is doing, right?

I gave you insanely favorable assumptions, and once again, you still haven't got a leg to stand on, simply because ST writers are MORONS.

I actually came up with another alternative analysis of the phrase terawatt. Megawatt is often used as shorthand for megawatt-hour. If this is being used the same way, then the figures become even more pathetic.

The warp drive has a lot in common with a stream engine. Like a stream engine the warp drive can over heat. Like a steam engines as will it go great speed for smell amount time, but risk over heating if goes at these speeds for to long. There also recommend top speed and the top speed you can get.

So to be on the money USS Enterprise D would have to be pumping power worth of 12 hours at 9.6 in 33 seconds of power into the main defector dishes .So you have to times it by 60 times then 60 times then times by 12 then divide it by 33 =1309 TW power.

Note GEORDI could also be talking about peace times when talking normal the USS Enterprise D.

2.I GAVE YOU 10 TIMES THAT!

3. Using your numbers, a more effective defense for the federation would be to put the B-52s back in service and seal them up for space work.

4. Please, please, STOP. You cannot win this, because you cannot find good examples, and you are obsessed with ST's weakest part, the dialog.

OK, so you are claiming that there are 60*13=780 TW of power in the warp core? I got that right, right? And that it can put all of that out in 33 seconds with the deflector dish? Did I get that right, too?

So using your numbers, the deflector dish can put out 780/33=23.67 TW/S (or TJ).

That means that (using my previous assumptions) photons have a yield of 1.48 TW, and phasers put out 1.48 TJ? That gives a photon a yield of 353 tons, and a phaser output of 353 tons/sec.

These numbers keep getting better and better for everyone but ST.

Seriously, when the firepower figures put out by your flagship make a cold war bomber look attractive, you are doing something wrong.

Enigma, it doesn't matter, That's still only generating 12.75 times what I assumed in the original 1 TW per millisecond post. So now we have yields at 204 KT MAX. And now its supported fully by dialog. Also, he's cherry picking his quotes again. That quote was in the middle of a run-away reaction inside the reactor, which would imply that it is darn near the maximum that the ship can generate, not "standing still."

He doesn't understand the numbers, and so is just copy/pasting. If he were actually manipulating the numbers he'd understand that in order to get even to the yields implied by the tech manual (which are still barely in the "better than mid-20th century strategic superpower"), he needs power generation 2-3 orders of magnitude bigger.

To get to yields suggested by say, "Skin of Evil," he needs another 3-4 orders of magnitude on top of that, which is not supported by the evidence he is presenting. In fact, at this point, in order to present that, he now has to show that Data can't read and Geordi is an idiot, which undermine his other points about the Enterprise-C.

So, in this thread we have seen that the Enterprise's firepower compares unfavorable with a Cold War B-52 wing, and that Voyager's maneuverability compares unfavorably with that of the Space Shuttle.

Nope, that's a non sequitur for three reasons.

1. Phase cannons are not the same as phasers. In fact I believe phasers are mentioned in other episodes.

2. The Federation in TNG era is ridiculously demilitarized. Once again I draw the analogy between NOAA and the Coast Guard and the US Navy. Do you see many NOAA ships armed with nuclear missiles? Hell, that's a bit much even for Stuart's universe, where "the United States took subtlety out behind the woodshed... and strangled it." By the way, this, could do more damage than you have provided evidence that the Enterprise-D could. And those don't come alone, the come in pairs, with one of these, and four of these. The real life equivalents of those, if you did a "Space Battleship Yamamoto" on them, would make a better defense for Earth - by your evidence - than the Enterprise-D. Hell, the frickin' Iowa, New Jersey, Missouri, and Wisconsin, loaded with the nuclear 16-inchers, and the nuclear 5-inchers that were once contemplated, would presumably do better than the entire fleet at Wolf 359, and we won't even talk about what would happen when you include the missile armed escorts that SAG would have.

3. We don't know where this measurement is being made. It could just mean that the weapons are much more inefficient than TNG phasers. Or it could mean that, once again, the TNG writers proved that the only difference between my sister's bulldog and a TNG writer is that the bulldog will eventually be able to figure out that he can't get through the sliding glass door by running at it full speed - at least after a few days of trying. ...Oh, and that the TNG writers are cuter. <Just for you, sis>

By the way, the only numbers I'm using to prove the ultimate inferiority of Trek weapons to current weapons are the ones you are providing. I know of other numbers, but I've paid a lot - in time, money, and learning - to understand how to get those estimates. I'm not giving them to you for free. If you find them, we can talk about them.

ITT, we prove that Jason is either a troll, or unable to count.

For anyone who has actually looked at the model, it has 12 - 13 if you count the effects mistake in this very episode - (Primary Hull Dorsal, Primary Hull Ventral, Cobra Forward, Cobra Aft Port, Cobra Aft Starboard, Secondary Hull Dorsal Aft Port, Secondary Hull Dorsal Aft Starboard, Secondary Hull Ventral Aft Port, Secondary Hull Ventral Forward, Secondary Hull Ventral Aft Starboard, Starboard Pylon, and Port Pylon), but only five can be brought to bear on any target in the upper forward arc, where the Borg cube was. I was giving the ship the benefit of the doubt and assuming that the phaser arrays which could not be used would not be counted.

To me the fact USS Enterprise D orbit a planet.

No shit, Sherlock. But you provided the numbers because you don't know what they mean. You can't do anything other than reissue the writer/bulldog comparison.

As for the warp core breach Q did it read this part scripted please.

PICARD

Are you responsible for the

incident in Engineering?

Q

Of course. I needed to find out

if what I suspected about the girl

was true.

My link

How does that prove anything about the power output at the time?

Also:

I never said Star Terk was science. Remeber this GEORDI used the term normal it very possible that USS Enterpise D in that mission was using a lote more power then it normal used.

Taking that statement apart:

1. Then why are you trying to debate using scientific principles? If you are going to take this tack just because you are unable to prove your point, then your just a wast of time. There are plenty of ways to attack my figures from a scientific standpoint, you just haven't found them yet and have alienated the entire board so bad that the other people who might have been able to help you, wont.

2. Geordi (Why do you think his name is in all caps? Is it just because you've only seen it in a script?), said that the Enterprise normally generates a terawatt of power. He did not specify any time interval, and considering common usage in the lay public - the only way to make the quote make sense in context - he meant terawatt-hour. The reason this usage and interpretation is logical is an out of context one, but it is the only way to avoid drawing the conclusion that the equivalent of a nuclear engineer doesn't know what a watt is. The third interpretation, that this is the amount of total power that the entire system can generate on a single load of fuel is so absurd as to not be funny anymore.

Instead of simple using any of those - low end - interpretations, I chose to give you (and him) the benefit of the doubt, and assume he meant that that was the amount of power it generated every millisecond. You then provided a second, more detailed and scientifically correct, quote that showed that momentarily before a catastrophic overpower event, it was generating 1 terawatt for a time period just a little less than one tenth of a millisecond. I showed that that still gives you low kiloton range firepower.
