Jason 27 Posted January 22, 2015 Star War Empire in practice won the battle of Yavin IV if all Ties had shields. Shield allow star fighter in practice to take 2 to 3 hits before being destroyed. Shield fighter it take just one hit that it. One direction hit is enough to destroy single tie fighter. If the Tie fighter escort Vader when he was trying shoot down Luke were shield would give Vader a few seconds. That all time Vader would have need to take out Luke. Then their goes the Rebel base. Khas 12,158 Posted January 22, 2015 You're right Jason. Playing "One Direction" songs WOULD be enough to take out a TIE Fighter. By making their pilots want to crash into things just to stop the music. In all seriousness though, yeah, giving TIEs shields would have been the smart thing to do. But TIEs were built for Zerg Rush "tactics", and shields would increase the cost of production. And the Empire likes being as cheap as possible.
Jason 27 Posted January 23, 2015 I think enough change entire outcome Yavin IV.
Khas 12,158 Posted January 23, 2015 It would have been the SMART thing to do. But not the COST-EFFECTIVE one. And considering that the Empire had admirals like Ozzel in its ranks, well....
Jason 27 Posted January 25, 2015 So Death star and star destoyer are cheap replace. Remeber if all ties had shields Empire blow Rebal base not the Rebal blow up the Death star. It save lot more money in cost give every tie fighter shields to then to have to build another death star to replace it.
Khas 12,158 Posted January 25, 2015 Well, the Death Star and Star Destroyers weren't cheap, seeing as the Empire DID need powerful, heavily defended warships and a planet killer. But then, Star Destroyers were designed to carry a LOT of TIE Fighters, and when you want to carry a lot of something - especially in space, you want it to be as lightweight as possible. Not to mention TIE Fighters were made just to Zerg Rush enemies. Other TIE Variants, like the TIE Advanced (Darth Vader's fighter), TIE Interceptor, and TIE Bomber, IIRC, had shields, but then, that was according to the Old EU. Jason 27 Posted January 27, 2015 Vader advance ties without question had shields. Tie intercept first it upgrade after Return of the Jedi with them accord old EU. Tie bomber I going say we did not know one way or other. Accord old EU yes they had but that unknown. Yes how big is one shield generations for tie fighter or X-wings. Might add little weight not a lot besides each tie figher last long fight able destroy more. Any case it had do why Rebel able to stand up Empire was because Empire design Tie fighter dirt cheap. ISD for some unknown reason design them cheap to remember Vader personal Star destroyer crash into Death star caught on fire instead while crashing in. Some engineering should done something it possible and no one do suggestion everything control bridge include able not light once self on fire.
