At the end day effect nuclear or anti matter make sense. Make simple EW warfare made impossible for enemies Kirk fighting call for help. They unable contact ship first place. While weapon might not been disable there able call for help would have been. If was nuclear or anti matter basic the vehicle might take hit that disable it out right still able call for help.

 

By the way on Star Destroyer.Net I point out that moral shell could easily answer why the UFP last so long when came to The Siege of AR-558 and death total sky rocket. They even agree moral could be for people not train us special basic long range missiles.
