    The ASVS Revitalization Project

Okay - here are some rules for the users and their characters for the main "story". 1: People can have multiple characters. 2: Characters will be divided by faction - first by franchise, then by alignment - "heroic" or "villainous". And now, the list of factions from the two franchises: Star Trek: - Heroic: -- United Federation of Planets -- Klingon Empire -- Romulan Republic -- Cardassian Union -- Ferengi Alliance -- Borg Cooperative - Villainous: -- True Way Alliance -- Tal Shiar Star Wars: - Heroic: -- New Republic -- Resistance -- Chiss Ascendancy - Villainous: -- First Order Both (as in, both Trek AND Wars, and both heroic AND villainous): -- Civilian -- Pirate -- Mercenary -- Bounty Hunter -- Smuggler Next Post will have the races for each faction that members can choose from.

    Stargate Origins

Looks like the Stargate franchise is going to get some new blood, albeit in a way I didn't expect: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_Origins

    Stargate Origins

From what I've heard Emmerich isn't involved in this. I could be wrong, though.

  6. Jedi Master Spock has lost his passion debate-wise (though signs that he was starting to lose it date back to the era of the KirkSkywalker/StarWarsStarTrek clusterfuck - wait, was that really six years ago, already? How time flies...), and the site has been experiencing worse technical issues than we have. So.... any thoughts about this?
  7. Oh, this site is still going to be called ASVS, and it's still going to be run by the people running it now. We're just going to be shifting our primary focus a bit, and maybe... expand the site?
  8. Set to the tune of Billy Joel's "Piano Man":
  9. Actually, from what I've heard, Star Trek: Discovery is doing fairly well, and so is Star Trek Online - Discovery's pilot alone was watched by 9.5 million viewers, and caused CBS All Access' revenues to double, so no, I wouldn't quite say that Trek is crashing and burning. Not to mention all the books, comics, and other media that are actually doing well. Also, would you believe that a lot of the racism and sexism (at least from what I've seen) in the SW fandom come from Brits?
  10. I've also had plans to reinvigorate ASVS - albeit, a lot of them involve a shift from "Versus" into a more general sci-fi/fanfic-hosting/RP site. There's also the "Atonement" idea I had. Where we try to create a welcoming - not "everybody be nice 24/7", but rather "open to new ideas" - community. But RayCav's right about the state of Sci-Fi Versus. Star Trek and Doctor Who are the only two "super-active" sci-fi franchises at the moment, and as RayCav said, Doctor Who is so wildly inconsistent that using it in "versus" is a total nightmare (not to mention the "LOL, what's continuity?" mindset the writers have). Interest in Star Wars movies is waning (though interest in Star Wars comics is going up). Stargate? That franchise sadly died with "Universe" (although it might come back if Roland Emmerich has his way). Battlestar Galactica? Dead. Firefly? Dead. Babylon 5? Might be dead, might get a reboot if the rumors I've heard are true. Lexx? Both dead AND obscure (I was one of only two kids in my entire high school who'd even HEARD of Lexx). StarCraft? Depends on whether or not StarCraft III gets made. Warhammer 40,000? While popular, even fans of that franchise admit that its community is hella toxic. Mass Effect? Dead and cremated. Halo? Still kickin', but not as hard as it once did. So... what does that leave us with? The Expanse? Dune? Not exactly the best choices... But I refuse to give up hope. Remember, franchises can come back like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Star Trek did it in 2009. Doctor Who did it in 2005. Battlestar Galactica did it in 2003. Hell, even Star Wars did it in 1991 with The Thrawn Trilogy (yes, Star Wars really was near death in the late 80's/early 90's). And maybe... just maybe... they can do it again. Maybe we can do it again, and do it right this time.

    Tribbles vs. Porgs

So, by act of Random Omnipotent Being (ROB), about 50 or so Tribbles... Have ended up on the planet Ach-To - specifically, the island that Luke was hiding out on. During their stay, the Tribbles run afoul of some of Ach-To's most well-known animals, the Porgs: For reasons known only to animals, the two species have now entered a direct competition for resources. Which one comes out on top? Tribbles, or Porgs?
  13. Okay, in this match we take what are probably the suckiest vessels in both universes, and pit them against each other. 50 TIE/ln Fighters vs. 1 Oberth-class Starship Which emerges victorious?
  14. Khas

    4-way dogfight

Alright, for this match, we're going to have a four-way dogfight between: 1 Danube-class Runabout 1 TIE Defender 1 Protoss Scout 1 Arwing Which craft emerges victorious?
  15. Khas

    4-way dogfight

Well, StarCraft DOES have canon novels that I can dig up for info - as well as a few comic books and a manga that I can dig through, since, well, they're also canon.

  17. Khas

    4-way dogfight

So... how do the Scout and Arwing handle this?
  18. Khas

    4-way dogfight

Because that page uses outdated info, and going by the new canon, Turbolaser bolts are made of Tibanna plasma, which HAS mass. So, there's some regular kinetic energy being delivered there.

    4-way dogfight

That the Falcon can withstand megaton hits, given that the TIEs that are attacking it - TIE/fo Fighters, which are shielded and more powerful than TIE/ln Fighters - aren't even dishing out kilotons worth of damage, and are still considered a threat to the Falcon.

    4-way dogfight

Now, as for the other two combatants, the Scout and the Arwing. Protoss Scouts are armed with dual photon blasters and antimatter missiles. Of course, Protoss "photon" weapons are photon weapons in the same way that photon torpedoes are - meaning, their named after the photons produced by a matter-antimatter reaction. So, let me correct this misnomer. Protoss photon cannons and photon blasters actually fire blobs of high-energy antimatter sheathed in a field of psychic energy. Scouts are shielded, and they use gravitic engines for sublight travel. They're powered by Khaydarin crystals, which focus psychic energy into a usable form. As for Arwings, these fighters are armed with twin "laser" cannons (which are probably more like SW "laser" weapons, meaning "laser-induced plasma" weapons, for reasons that'll be explained below) and nova bombs/smart bombs. The reason I say that their lasers are more likely plasma weapons is because of the fact that doing a barrel roll generates a magnetic field which deflects them. And lasers aren't effected by magnetic fields, but plasma is.

    4-way dogfight

You mean THIS TIE Defender? I'm pretty sure that this counts as megajoule, not megaton firepower.
  23. Alright, in this thread, two of the dumbest things to grace the old Star Wars Expanded Universe slug it out. The first... is the Fairwind: The second, are the "Season Rulers" of Endor (clockwise from top left: Sun King, Snow King, Leaf Queen, Flower Queen): Who wins?
  24. Khas

    Fairwind vs. Season Rulers

The Fairwind was the personal ship of some Jedi who was also a nobleman. It had a wooden hull, and was apparently spaceworthy. Not making this up.
  25. Dennis Werner - a tall man of mixed German and Native American descent, as well as the night supervisor - sat in the back of the van, reading the book he'd brought along for the ride - "Pushing Ice", by Alastair Reynolds, to be precise. Always a fairly quiet man, he had barely paid any attention to his comrades' conversations. However, from time to time, he'd look up from his book, just to see what his fellows were up to. On the most recent "look-up", he saw Henry spit into his bottle, before drinking the water again. That sight had made Dennis grimace - few things had managed to get that reaction from him, but this was definitely one of them. "For fuck's sake, man, how can you DO that?" he asked.
