Sounds like a real headache. I don't envy you. Nothing wrong with that.

Possible solution to the problem that is Abrams' STAR TREK for fans who didn't like it.
Tyralak replied to Afishymeadow's topic in The Nexus
Oh dear God. No Tribbles. -
Well, I've never heard it before. Where is it from?

I KNEW there was something fishy about that Battle Droid!

It's really not a big deal. I got a friend of mine to register. He picked "Airlocke". Not sure why. I asked him to pick another one, because it was in use. He had already begun posting. So he picked a different one, and I changed it for him. I didn't think it was possible for two people to have the same username. It shouldn't be. I talked to Paul and he fixed the setting.

This is the problem I have with the Warsie opposition to this. They are so desperate to explain away what is right in front of their faces, that they are willing to ignore the preponderance of surrounding evidence in favor of picking apart TV budget special effects. Saying that because the few seconds we see of the orbital bombardment doesn't look exactly like what they think it should, that the rest of the supporting evidence should be discarded. Along with discarding context, and common sense. THAT is truly delusional. They might have a point if the context didn't support it and there was no other indication from previous episodes that it was possible. But we have evidence as far back as TOS. The best example I could come up with is someone videotaping a person being attacked by the neighbor's Pit Bull. The neighbor admits this is his Pit Bull. The person being attacked says it was a Pit Bull. The videotape shows a Pit Bull, but you go and examine his bite marks and say. "No. That can't possibly be a Pit Bull that attacked you. The bite mark looks wrong." That's insanity roughly on the same level.

See? You're famous! Anyway, he's got his own username now.
-
It isn't him. However, where is that guy anyway? He hasn't yet shown himself.

No more so than a Turbolaser bolt exiting the firing chamber would make the Turbolaser turret melt.

Well, I'd like to say Airlocke is right, and we're hoping for a massive surge in membership. This is partially true. However, it's also because they are either close friends and/or they begged me for mod privileges (even though they never post. You know who you are. )I don't see a reason to demote any of them.

Possible solution to the problem that is Abrams' STAR TREK for fans who didn't like it.

I actually think that would be the most disappointing of all scenarios. I like the Abrams version of Trek. Making it "all a dream" ala "Newhart" would be unforgivable, IMHO. -
You missed my point completely. I'm not defending the laser/navigational deflector idea. It's a ridiculous argument. THAT was my point. It's just as ridiculous as the neutronium hull business. The link I gave thoroughly rebukes the argument. As far as the rest of your post goes, I will get to it tonight. I have to go to work.
-
Tell me you're kidding. You didn't really pull out that old neutronium hull falsehood did you? Why don't we go back to the old "Turbolasers are useless against Trek ships because lasers can't penetrate navigational deflectors" argument? On the off chance you aren't pulling my chain and are actually being serious, RSA swatted this one down in less than a page. Neutronium Hull Falsehood You keep saying this, but "rippling clouds" is not what we see. Clouds don't come UP from the planet, and we don't see clouds to begin with. What we see appears to be the surface itself being liquefied and rippling. Look closely at the colors. Nobody said anything about destroying a planet. A Warbird isn't a Death Star. We're talking about destroying the crust. And as I mentioned before, we don't really know what "destroyed" means in this case. It could be any range of things. Once again, it depends on what exactly you mean by BDZ. You really need to define your source for BDZ and exactly what it constitutes. Mind you, without resorting to the ICS, which really has been retconned out of relevancy. *sigh* must I quote Scooter again? BDZ And got creamed by one with it's shields up. Oh, and a Clone Wars era ship burned up on re-entry.

First plant eating spider discovered.
Tyralak replied to Afishymeadow's topic in Vulcan Science Academy
That's pretty cool. I've always taken it for granted that spiders we carniverous. The possibility of an herbivorous spider didn't even occur to me. -
Are you quite certain this is the argument you want to push? I'll give you some time to reconsider before I reply.

Jason, it has to be a clip from a supported media site like YouTube. I found the same clip from YouTube and added it to your post. I left your original link there as well.

At the clip we've been going recently, probably within a week.

Methinks this one has a man-crush on Wong.

I took particular perverse pleasure in the size Abrams made the new Enterprise. It's funny to watch the mental gymnastics (to borrow a phrase) that some people are using to claim that the new Enterprise isn't 900 meters ILM says it is. (Funny how Warsies are saying that ILM is full of shit) or even the 725 meter size. Either way, it's a gigantic ship. A good move by Abrams, IMHO. I think this size change may have something to do with a perceived greater venerability due to the loss of the Kelvin. It's interesting to not, that Starfleet tends to be more militaristic in this movie than in previous ones. I'm of the opinion that this is also due to Nero's attack on the Kelvin.

So, Mirah. Did you get to go?

Well, I'm glad you were able to rejoin us. Since Usenet is rapidly drying up, I felt it would be a good idea to preserve our culture by moving it to the web. As far as the STGOD goes, I think there's a way for me to make it threaded. I'll look into it. Get with Raycav, though. He's anxious to get the game started again. -
