  1. Vader and crew Star Destroyer know they going face worn hole alien that Sisko send to stop them. If UFP starship handle Pah-wraith and they know deal it they just us a chroniton torpedoes and by by Pah wraith. As far as know Star wars does anything chroniton weapons or anything like it. Vader and his crew goners.

WOW, YOU"RE LEARNING CURVE IS PRETTY MUCH VERTICAL, ISN'T IT?

  2. The interesting part is how the plasma still considerably slows down.

    What plasma?

Yet at such altitudes, a low Earth orbit can be maintained with little effort.

    Are you insane?

Of course an artificial satellite will have more momentum per cubic centimeter than super hot gases,

Wow, that's the dumbest way to say density I've ever heard.

but it's very cool nonetheless regarding what explosions would look like inside nebulas for example.

    You're Jason, aren't you?

  3. Not to mention, giving either of those countries nukes would annoy previously referenced cranky superpower, because it would probably result in it going of in said superpower's territory.

As usual, people take a much to amerocentric view to this whole issue. As with so many things, the US is protected by its geography.

Can someone with half a functioning brain cell please list the countries whose nuclear arsenal threaten the United States directly (i.e. with a direct attack)? Then please list the non-nuclear powers that could threaten the United States directly if they had nukes.

Seriously - there's several tiers of nuclear power. Getting to the top tier takes a lot of work, a lot of money, and a lot of time. Not being in the top tier REALLY sucks, because now instead of playing the other minor league teams, you have to play the Yankees - and they don't have a salary cap.

  4. A Ron Moore character realizes there is a plan, and follows it.

A JMS character realizes there is a plan, follows it for a while, and then in a massive cliffhanger tells the planner what to do with himself.

A Brannon Braga character doesn't notice the plan in the middle of all the bad writing, deus ex machina, and technobabble.

A David Weber character never notices the plan because they are so awesome that they defeat the plan by both their brains and individual, qualitative superiority - even though it outnumbers them eight billion to one.

A Keith Laumer character realizes the plan, sets himself up in front of the plan, and defeats it by committing suicide.

A Christopher Anvil character never has time to notice the plan, they are too busy running from one insane crisis to the next.

    Thoughts or additions?

  5. But we're missing a movie...

    Was that all AotC? tongue.gif

Pretty much. I'd almost do Ep. 3 as a chase movie, with the backdrop of the formation of the Rebellion. I'm having a harder time envisioning it. Certainly a very different movie from the one we got. I'd probably set the Mustafar confrontation at the end of Act 2, and then do act three as one of those "everyone dies" chase concepts. I'd definately have kenobi visit Dagobah, might even have Anakin come there and visit the cave.

  6. I think give EU and USA the will to pay the bill for peace between Palestinians and the Israel bribe the two side making peace out fear nuclear war.

    Oh, God...

Please list the books you have read to understand the complexities of that situation, and please list the books you have read relating to the differences between international relations between nuclear powers and the tiers of nuclear powers.

    Define "Hegemon" and "Maximal Realism"

  7. OK, fleshing this out:

    Kickass John Williams Music plays

    STAR WARS

Episode 2: Attack of the Clones

    More kickass John Williams music

    Intro crawl

Pull down onto spacecraft flying in space over Naboo

Spacecraft door opens (we see its space because gas and debris fly out.

Robed figure leaps out of door and extends his arm - almost like the Green Lantern

He falls through the atmosphere protected only by the force.

He lands with a thump on the steps where the victory celebration in Episode 1 was held. He stands and ignites a red lightsaber.

He spends the next five minutes killing anyone and everyone in the palace, eventually reaching a suite, where he stabs a young woman in the chest. As he walks to a closed door and kills two guards, he is shot in the back by SABE (Keira Knightly), the Queen's bodyguard.

A few hours later, as AMIDALA covers the face of her bodyguard with a cloth, the security guy from Episode 1 pulls back the hood of the assasin, revealing an unknown face.

Cut to scenes on many planets showing that they have been attacked by strike teams of varying sizes. On one planet, show an entire city destroyed with large ships lifting off. Show a space station being destroyed. On another, show a planet with severe damage and several Star Destroyer sized ships jumping to hyperspace.

Weeks later, on Coruscant, YODA, OBI-WAN, AND MACE WINDU are briefing PALPATINE, and they show holos of many different types of armor, but they all have the same face. They pronounce that these enemies are all clones. After the briefing, PALPATINE

recieves a message that the nemoidians have have moved for a vote of no confidence in him.

In the Jedi Council chambers, YODA and the majority of the council are arguing with MACE WINDU. YODA is arguing that this is not Jedi business, and that they must not interfere. MACE WINDU believes that this is a threat to the Republic and the Jedi must investigate. He is overruled by the council.

Later, MACE WINDU is speaking with OBI-WAN, he complains that the council has become too conservative, too afraid to act. He tells OBI-WAN that for the people controlling these clones to have sent such a powerful agent to assinate AMIDALA, then she must be important. MACE WINDU instructs OBI-WAN and ANAKIN to meet with her and act as her bodyguard until this situation has been resolved.

The vote of no confidence is deadlocked. There are exactly equal numbers in favor as against. In response, the Nemoidians withdraw from the chamber and leave. As their shuttle reaches their ship, it is revealed to be the same design as the massive ships that had damaged the planet.

In Palpatine's chambers, PALPATINE is speaking with a figure in a hooded Jedi robe, he says that this is perfect, and even better than the previous plan. He tells his "new apprentice" that he should be patient, and act only when the time is right. Perhaps there is still time to avert the future he has seen.

On the way to Naboo, OBI-WAN and ANAKIN have a discussion, where ANAKIN displays a slightly bloodthirsty nature, but nothing that is completely beyond the norm, possibly just a very aggressive Jedi.

For the next act of the movie, we follow OBI-WAN and ANAKIN and AMIDALA through various encounters implying that many months, even years pass, including a space battle between Loyalist forces and Seperatist clone forces. After barely escaping the encounter alive, ANAKIN and AMIDALA find themselves sleeping together. When AMIDALA awakes, ANAKIN is has left.

AMIDALA and ANAKIN fight throughout the last act. ANAKIN becomes more and more angry, calling her weak. After a final encounter on a planet, ANAKIN disappears, leaveing OBI-WAN and AMIDALA alone. They barely excape some situation with thier lives.

The Senate grants the Chancelor Emergency Powers. In his speach accepting emergency powers, he names the Jedi as complicit in the seperatists, and produces the evidence of the assasination attempt at the beginning of the movie. He declares the Jedi outlaws, and YODA orders the Jedi into hiding. MACE WINDU, observing the speech in the senate, is attacked by Guardsman. He responds by attempting to reach PALPATINE, but is stopped by ANAKIN. ANAKIN kills him.

Later, after OBI-WAN leaves AMIDALA, as he is now a larger target than she is, sneaks her way to Alderaan, landing at a private platform near a palace. There she meets BAIL ORGANA and says, "I think I have made a horrible mistake."

Cue Luke Skywalker Theme. Roll Credits.

  8. Seriously, he should have known who he had by the time he needed to write Episode II.

How about a galaxy spanning thriller about one Planetary ruler trying to hold a civilization together with both hands during the clone wars - working with Jedi Master Obi Wan Kenobi and his apprentice Skywalker, who makes a one time mistake with a said apprentice and regrets it, even hiding his children from him. After the fall of the Republic, she spends her effort hiding her children from her insane lover with an old ally and in the family of a political ally. Eventually being killed by Vader in a completely meaningless sacrifice that fails.

EDIT: This is interesting. It could satisfy everything we know (better than the prequels did in fact) while still reorienting the series to play to the strengths of the actors involved (i.e. making Hayden Christiensen much less important in the grand scheme of things).

  9. Need I say more? tongue.gif

    Two words: Black Swan

On another note, can't sleep either? smile.gif

My bedroom is badly positioned. My head is the 3 feet from the A/C, and when it rains, I hear this continuous pounding. I'm going to go to work as early as I can possibly justify and sleep in my chair.

  10. Not with Michael Bay...

Shall I present Transformers 1 and 2 as evidence?

Just like SW, they forgot to add a story and compelling characters to an SFX fest, thus leaving us with but a shadow of the animated series we knew and loved...

    I mean, Bumblebee, a Camaro?

    Fuck no...

Yeah, but there was no potential.

The Prequels HAD potential - and Lucas wasted it criminally.

    As evidence I present:

    Natalie Portman

    Liam Neeson

    Ewan McGregor

    Ray Park

    Frank Oz

    Samuel L. Jackson

    Keira Knightley

    Christopher Lee

Christ... I'd never actually listed them all.

Those actors could have improvised a movie better than the prequels.

  11. I kinda knew that about the ships. So I guess it is the same for starbases then? So for example if the base C.O. is an ensign then he's addressed as "Ensign ----"?

So Sisko was addressed as captain (after promotion) even when he was onboard DS9?

I'm pretty sure. I'm rewatching B5 now, or I'd look to find out.

  12. Yup, I do believe a Starbase Commander is called Commander, no matter their rank, but in some cases they are called by their rank (a few Admirals commanding starbases were called Admiral a few times)...

Except Sisko was addressed as Captain after his promotion. This whole thing comes from the mistaken belief that Sisko was a captain at the beginning of DS9. Look at his pips, even though Starfleet uniforms have a deplorable lack of sleeve stripes in that era, the pips operate on the same concept. The navy system is actually nicely structured. (I've included the common form of address in parenthesis. Lt. Commander is traditionally the line between when a person is viewed to have enough experience to command a ship independantly. <- This is based on modern naval structure.

    Dotted - Ensign J.G. (Ensign)

    Full - Ensign (Ensign)

Full, Dotted - Lieutenant, J.G. (Lieutenant)

    Full, Full - Lieutenant (Lieutenant)

Full, Full, Dotted - Lt. Commander (Commander)

Full, Full, Full - Commander (Commanter)

Full, Full, Full, Full - Captain (Captain)

But I'm not sure about the "Captain" thing (on Fed starships, not in the British navy), as I seem to recall Worf being called Sir, and not Captain, when he was in command of the Defiant, and Sisko being called Commander a few times before his promotion...

Could be. I was basing it mostly on Kirk in TMP, where he was addressed as Captain. There is actually some implications in TWoK that the ACTUAL Captain of the Enterprise was Spock, and that Kirk simply assumed tactical command, which in that case ended up looking a whole lot like command of the ship.

  13. How are they addressed as? By their rank or as Commander? I was told that the commanding officer of a starbase\space station\etc... is addressed as "Commander" with DS9 as the source (Sisko was addressed as Commander on DS9 and Captain in the Defiant). I thought that Sisko was ranked as Commander then promoted to Captain?

    huh.gif

By their rank Sisko was promoted to captain.

Anyway, the captain of a ship is always addressed as captain in a british military tradition, even if he's an ensign. (or an admiral in Kirk's case in TMP)

  14. So then, there wouldn't be a difference in the intensity of the flash between a 1 KT and a 1 MT explosion?

    Even to the naked eye?

Not from a distance where you can see the targets, you still lose the camera/eyeball.

If we can clearly see the explosion, doesn't this then tell us it wasn't that energetic?

Probably. What was my point again?

  15. Wait.....Why do I not have a "None of the above" option? This is clearly not fair. Nor is it true. Tyralak gave me a rep boost, so it was clearly funny. So, you fail......

You, like Jason, don't seem to understand how showtrials work...

    Edit: Here you go...

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.

  16. Wouldn't a more energetic bomb make a slightly longer, or bigger flash, since there's a lot more energy in a 1 GT explosion than there is in a 1 KT explosion...

Not on a scale that humans can measure. The energy is still released FAR faster then we can distinguish, and is far more than we can distinguish.

It only takes a long time in the atmosphere due to secondary effects. And yes, that is an atmospheric shot, no one has detonated a nuke in actual space as far as I am aware.

  17. I also yet to hear of goverment be charge genicide for not give aid village in thier country when disease hit that village and villager died out in that village. That very simler what Archer did.

    No, its not.

PLEASE STOP. YOU ARE EMBARASSING YOURSELF.

If you understood the scale of genocide, you'd understand why that is an idiotic response.

Everyone else, see the new poll on top of this thread.
