  1. Because you aren't an idiot, I'm going to deliberately ignore the fact that it should be obvious to anyone that I'm making comparisons to the multi-month cargo ship journeys. Are you implying that you think there is a difference on the level needed to make this situation work in any of those shows? You can't have it both ways, if ST has technology low enough to make this interesting, then they get their ass handed to them by just about every spacefaring universe.
  2. He's trying to transplant the Alien scenario into the ST universe. Which is idiotic because of the technology/societal differences. If he want's to do it during ENT, you could have a ton of fun with it, although he'd probably say "MACOs kill everything! DURR!"
  3. We've set the best programmers in the world on it. We had to let them go when they tried to commit suicide.
  4. We know that when the Starfleet is the ONLY one capable of warp 5, independant cargo ships are slower. None of that sentance applies to TNG.
  5. Good point. Although there seems to be very little evidence that the coolent is that cold. We don't know where in the loop the coolant was, either. It could very well have been the return loop, and the placement would certainly imply that.
  6. That really depends on the episode... but point taken. of course, Picard was able to break the queen's neck in half, which does not speak well for her durabiliy.
  7. I do. With a 2 week, or even 2 month delay, an alien distress call would be answered by a military ship. As for the setup, it's completely irrelevant. The federation does not have corporations like weyland-yutani. There would be no setup. Hence military ship is sent. Given your starfleet wanking, how do you think they do?
  8. I've got to (re)watch the episode, but were they adapting? The kinetic issue is still pretty damning, especially given how common-place the issue is. Watched the episode. There is only possible evidence of two plasma shots being fired, and since the rest of the episode is basically a demolition of TNG borg and an admission of every weakness of the borg... maybe this isn't the best cite. Of course, bringing up that episode also introduces other continuity issues, but I'll just dismiss those with the refreain of the continuity concerned trekkie. (The Writers are idiots!) Heck, wasn't data able to break a drone's neck?
  9. No problem, your questiond are the same ones I asked myself. The reason Mith got called out is that he didn't provide any information on what his source was, so it could not be checked and then presented it like it was a settled issue. I actually have no problem with the idea that phasers and disrupters would not be blocked by SW shields. My issue is with how relevant that is. Mith just pushed the insta-enrage button.
  10. And this has what to do with the price of tea in china? And Nil and A and C and D and probably E, plus the Defiant. Hence why I said a starship would be believeable in the situation.
  11. Relevance? The issue is that the Federation, having FTL travel, does not have multiple year lag times. Do you even understand the basic premise of Aliens technology? NO FTL.
  12. Asuming that 80% of the planets mass is left, then the energy dumped into the system to cause that effect is 3.66552e1041 J, or 8.7608e1025 megatons of TNT. E=MC2 is a bitch, ain't it? Cool. Good to know. I asked because Tyralak and I had had discussions before. Of course that doesn't rule anything out, but it does imply that there is at least the posibility that they are different mechanisms and therefor they should be treated that way.
  13. Not a ship, but Mith didn't limit himself to ships. They keep getting clubbed straight through First Contact. It should be relatively simple for a species that can projecto a forcefield from the body ("Q Who") to use any of the dozens of methods we have seen in ST to reduce the damage from a physical blow such as being hit with a phaser rifle. The bullets and sword are just icing on the cake.
  14. Interesting. So it operates in a completely different way - not destroying the atomic structure of the target but rather by turning it to dust (not disintegrating) - and certain brain dead individuals wish to assume that its the same thing. This is the exact type of reasoning I expect to see from SFJ. That's exactly the same as the way phasers and disrupters work. Once again at the risk of being accused of abusing my power, because this kind of shit is a pet peeve of mine... MITH WILL WITHDRAW THE POINTS REGARDING THIS OBVIOUS DISHONEST DEBATING. HE EITHER CHECKED HIS SOURCE, AND IS THEREFORE MISREPRESENTING HIS EVIDENCE INTENTIONALLY AND OBFUSCATING BY BLAMING IT ON SFJ AND NOT CITING THE DISCUSSION; OR HE TOOK THE WORD OF OTHERS AT FACE VALUE AND SHOULD LEARN A LESSON FROM THIS.
  15. I'd actually be willing to stipulate this if you had demonstrated even the common sense, research abiltiy, debate ability, or even willingness to provide evidence of a particularly stupid ant. BULLSHIT. Why is frequency shifting able to defeat adaptation? Why are the borg unable to adapt to non-frequency based weapons, even when said adaptation is so obvious that humans figured it out multiple milennia ago? and now, at the risk of being accused of abuse of power. YOU WILL PROVIDE DIRECT EVIDENCE THAT THE BORG'S ABILITY TO ADAPT IS NOT LIMITED BY FREQUENCY.
  16. Interesting, as this is excatly what dumping a shitload of energy into the system would do as well... What level of mass do you think is left? (I ask for a very good reason) Also, are we still operating on the assumption that all beam combining weapons are superlasers... this is significant as well.
  17. JASON, PLEASE STATE AN OPINION AND BACK IT UP WITH EVIDENCE, OR AT LEAST SPECIFY WHICH POWER RANGER TEAM YOU ARE REFERRING TO. THIS IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION SO THAT I CAN ASSEMBLE A YOUTUBE VIDEO.
  18. Cite your sources. Also, please give a way such a thing could happen in the federation or to a Starfleet cargo hauler. Hell, I'd believe it happening to a starship, but a cargo hauler, never in a million years. Maybe a research ship...
  19. But he's wrong that it would be the worst place. Like I said, I can think of a number of places worse. Especially if I can pick when, too.

    Enterprise-D Vs Covenant Destroyer

How stupid are you? A fireball... IN SPACE? It's not like there's not plenty of resources on the internet describing what nuclear weapons in space are like. Its not like there referenced on this board. EDIT: To clarify, in space, nukes, just like virtually everything else, are contact or near contact weapons. Also, as a side note. If I want a 50-ton explosion out of a missile, I don't need 11-tons of explosives to pull it off. Nukes get that small.
  21. Can I have a cite other than ANH on ray shields? I know the RPGs use them for balance purposes, but do we ever see them? If course, I'm barely awake at the moment, so this may not make any sense.
  22. That's actually been my private theory for a while... can't prove it though.
  23. Are you trying to start a riot? There's not enough people on this board to make that work. Go to SDN and post this, the funny will be legendary.
