ASVS rep whoring thread Mark I

I have given what rep I can.
  2. Actually, I pointed out that RECOVERING the plans might well be harder, simply due to Federation ships tendency to explode when you look at the cross-eyed.
  3. What's your evidence? Also, what are your responses to my non-technological reasons why the war must be fairly evenly matched?

The States of Sanity go to war

States of Sanity War Room Resplendent Palace Jasonia City, The States of Sanity "Sir, the bombers have arrived at their failsafe points," announced the SoSAF general. "How long do we have until we have to make a commitment?", asked the Glorious Sane Leader. "About two hours." "Send the ultimatum, privately, and then switch off the receivers, we don't actually want a response." "Yessir." ----- Message

    Lag issues

I occasionally have trouble using safari. It seems to be random, but it occurs when I press the "skip to unread posts" button next to the topic title.

Begun the rep wars have & other stuff

Very. I quiver with jealousy. I would never submit a bug report to help out. That's just not my style.

One note though. Latest Reputation doesn't seem to work on my account, but it does for Airlocke. Is this a bug?

I really have to commend Paul. He's created a way to measure the attention whoring of a web forum. That should be worth a doctorate at least.

    seaQuest DSV love/hate thread

It was a fun show, and I think it would have done better if they had picked a sub-genre and stuck with it. The military angle the third season took was interesting, and it was right around the time more military sci-fi was taking off. I always wonder what they would have done if they'd been given a full third season. ETA: Did you know that all three seasons are available to watch online on Netflix?
  17. Do I look like the fucking Baron, Tyralak? Having very little reference on the big dick thing, I'll just say I haven't had any complaints.
  18. Oh. What I said before I edited my response was: "Are you in a contest with him to write the most unintelligible post?" But then I decided that there was the chance you were mocking him, so I pulled in my fangs.
  19. What you think is irrelevant, what you can prove is what matters. Also, Starfleet spent the better part of two years upgrading it to take on the Dominion. If Starfleet considered it an inadequate defensive installation, Starfleet would have put in one of its own Starbases. The fact that NOTHING Starfleet owns is designed for war is another point. Starfleet is, at best, during the time of TNG a cross between the Coast Guard and NOAA. A war might have changed the attitudes of the personnel, but you fight wars with what you have, so I doubt that Starfleets bases would be significantly more powerful, just as the ships are not. Ships from KIRK's era (or just after it) might be the best combatants available, which is born out by the designs of ships we see in combat throughout TNG and DS9. They repeatedly talk about Kirk's era as having been a dying breed - when they mention them at all. While this is in Real Life a reflection on the differences in philosophy between Gene and others, in universe, it implies a huge amount of cultural change. In TNG, combatant ships have FAMILIES on them, and this is not remarked upon as unusual. Simply replacing the families with ground combat forces does nothing to change the basic design of the ship. On another point: Long drawn out wars do not occur between mismatched opponents unless there are intervening issues. If the Federation were so much more powerful than the Klingons, they would have dictated terms from orbit over the Klingon Homeworld. The fact that neither side was able to free up enough ships to do this shows that they are very evenly matched, implying that the war has devolved into the space equivalent of World War I. If you want a real world example of what happens when forces are as mismatched as you are trying to make the Federation and the Klingon Empire, look at Desert Storm. For an example in fiction (and one that is actually more appropriate, even if it is far more extreme than the Federation would implement) look at The Big One by Stuart Slade.
  20. Yes, some did get destroyed, but Davy Crocket managed to kill a few Mexicans, too. The Klingon Empire does not seem to have the same casualty issues that modern militaries do. A few casualties do not turn a victory into a defeat.

Should I start one thread a day for the series he missed? I'm sure I'll miss a few too.
