I was supposed to have time to do things today but that got dumped

Damn having to clean a car, plan for picking up a ton of boxes tomorrow *screams* I will find time to take a look at all this in the next day or so.

So I'm working on my new game, getting it prepped for publishing, and some high level meetings and I'd like some opinions (serious ones please). Here is kinda the preface to Prelude please tell me what you think, if you notice any grammar errors please point them out and anything else

An old, battered man sits on his rocking chair enjoying a nice evening next to the fire. "Grandpa, Grandpa!" Three children sang in sequence together as they ran up to him. The old man looks lovingly at the children and asks "What is it?" "Tell us a story!" One yelped out as another chimed in "One about the past!" "And make it a real one" The last child comments. The old man chuckles. "Allright, sit down and get comfortable." The children gathered around, sitting at his feet. They all gazed up at the man they idolized. The old man leaned forward and his voice becomes grim as he says "Four thousand years ago, the world was in gulfed." "IN FLAMES!" He boomed. The children screamed, holding onto each other as they giggled. "There was a great war when our ancestors first discovered magic."

"When was this?" The small timid boy asked.

"A very long time ago in the City of Korlisan, where the magic seed was first discovered." The old man replied.

"Magic seed?" The older sister asked with a quizical look on her face.

The old man nodded "Yes my dear, that is what the mana seed was called when it was first discovered. As it gave rise to our ability to use magic, but back then it was feared. No one understood it's full potential except for a few elders. And children, can you believe some of the elders did not want to see the world with magic?"

The children gasped then laughed. The middle child exclaimed; "They failed! Magic is everywhere now!" The old man laughed and said "Yes they did, but back then it was a very rare gift. The only way to understand magic in those times was to be imbued with it's power by the magic seed. Which was a problem." "How?" The 3 children asked in unison. The old man smiled. "As I said, 4 thousand years ago, Before the war had even begun, and the world was more or less at peace, most of the countries were not involved in other countries matters. But that soon changed. The people of Korlisan and the surrounding cities learned of the magic seed, and wished to make it open to everyone. But the mages of Courtlyn had other ideas. They studied the magic to learn it's destructive powers. But, as history tells us no one knew that at the time and it's where our great ancestors embarked on a journey that would change the world as we know it..."

Come join a world where anything will be possible! Feel like being a chef? How about a guard for a city? Or maybe you'd just like to own a bar? Anything will be possible in the Aethro story line!

Our primary goal here at Aethro is to tell you a GREAT story. This will not be done by just quests like most mmo's now a days. There won't be an "end game" that you can get too. The story will be brought to you by the staff. We will have events that will run randomly and some scheduled that will change and progress the story. Whats important about this? Well for one, it gives you a sense of being apart of the moment. You can go down as a hero, or a villian, and your name be known during major conflicts. Hell, the main bad guys might comment publically on you and how you are a thorn in their side It adds to the realism in our minds. It gives you a sense of being there. There will be quests for you to go on, to help get your skills up, but they won't actually interfere with the story arc. The story arc in the end will help justify what happens in our expansions. So, ultimately, YOU create the story. You are the ones that decide what our next expansion is going to be

With that said, we plan to introduce areas as time progresses. Yes, only one major continent will be available at start. There is a story reason for this and it will unfold as time goes on. Magic is very limited and there is a story behind that. For us? It's about telling that story and YOU being apart of it. Our motto is - "Play the game. Live the story. Shape the future." And we stand by that. YOU will live this story and shape the future of the game. It all comes down to choices that are made by our players. Not by us.

While yes, some decisions will be made by us for sanity purposes, most of the story will be done by choices the players make. We want to be interactive. You will see us roaming around, you will see us roleplaying and being characters. We want to bring back the RPG in MMORPG.

The leveling system is much more complex than in most MMO's. You do not gain XP while fighting monsters, or by completing quests. You must train your skills in order to go up in rank. For example - Say you had the job Guard which requires learning in swords. As you level up your swords skill, you can go back to your job leader and ask him to be promoted. If you have gained enough training in swords, you go up in rank. If not, he tells you to go learn more. Please realize this is just an example this isn't an actual situation, as all jobs require learning more than one skill before you can level up. Leveling up in your job unlocks access to new items, abilities, talents and so on. However, training does take a bit of work so you will have to plan your character out otherwise you will be spending time backtraining low level skills that cannot hurt higher level monsters. More information on skills, crafting and such will be available over the next few months.

For those that are wondering, we are already expecting to build 3 more expansions to Aethro. Aethro Episode 2: The Great War, Aethro Episode 3: The Shards of Time, and Aethro Episode 4: The final conflict. EP4's name is still a work in progress. Episode 2 will begin the war that will reshape the world, Episode 3 will send you back in time to before even magic existed and Episode 4 will send you forward in time to stop (or help) the mages of Courtlyn. Like i said earlier, it all comes down to players decisions on how the game will unfold. EP4 will be the final main story to Aethro. After that, we will open up a new story. The game will be the same, but it'll be along a new arc and most likely labled Aethro 2.

Yes, it's IPB 3.2.0 but whatever. I can call it what I want too cuz I uploaded it so HAH!

Anyways, as you'll notice off the bat not everything is back up and going. The economy system is still offline, and the awards are non existent. They are returning and shouldn't be far behind. But I figured getting the forums back up and online so Jason can annoy you all would be a boost.

The front page is now in full testing mode (once it's finished uploading there's a ton of files). This will be used to offer those that have fanfic's hosted here a nicer, cleaner looking link than a forum link.

It also makes it look more nifty. We also have some other things coming that required the front page to be finalized so yay. I know a few things look quite different, and the final frontier skin looks A LOT different but I assure you it's being upgraded.

I've also enabled the twitter system, which will allow you to tweet (if you have a twitter) threads, posts etc thus helping us advertise more You can also just login with twitter or facebook! More options are coming but this is a start.

If you have any questions about anything OR find a bug, please post it here so I can find it and smack it down.

In the next week, ASVS will be updating to IPB 3.2.0 due to it's stability, options, and overall just sexyness compared to what we have now. This is all good stuff

However there will be a few major changes that should be noted.

• Arcade will be disabled.
• ASVS Mail will be removed. No one used it and it's just eating up DB space
• Reputation History will be going to make way for a new system
• Profile pictures will no longer be different from avatar pictures
• The SSR Radio stream will not function right at the start
• Awards are being removed and updated
• Economy system will be updated to include some new items
• The new front page system WILL be installed at the same time, however will not be accessible to anyone outside myself and ty.

I cannot say exactly at this moment when the update will occur, as I'm finally finishing up my damn MMO. (Yes, again) However, it should be in the next few days and I only do major software updates at night so there ya go.

Would a non trekkie be even halfway interested? Some parts of the gameplay interest me, but I don't want to spend a lot of time running around being a courier, i'd be looking to blow shit up.

Basically you're thrown into combat right off the bat. The missions are pretty good well some are hehe, but it's almost all pew pew.

Reboots restart the ENTIRE franchise. As in all story lines are no longer canon or in use.

This is obviously NOT a reboot as the canon storylines from Prime universe are still in play, however the Abrams universe is also in play.

Thus its more like the Mirror Universe than a reboot.

Later this month (or next depending on their release schedule) the site will be offline for maintenance.

During this maintenance a lot of things will be changing and being updated. Along with adding a new portal to the front page (finally got D7 to play nice with IPB go me \o/) which will allow for story tellers to have easy links and areas of their own, and IPB will be updated to the latest release.

These changes include an entirely new text editor with auto saving, quick replies and quick quotings will be much more smooth and accurate as well, as well as if someone replies while you're posting the system will notify you. (Hey it could happen).

A new reputation like system will be introduced during this phase as well. It will allow for you too see who's liked what and so fourth right in the post instead of having to use the reputation history.

There will be some social changes as well including some addons to twitter and changes with facebook.

Like I said, this should be by the end of the month or early next depending on IPB's release schedule, and since I have to update multiple sites I figured meh I'll do them all in one shot hehe.

I am making this post to point out I have no comment on the subject.

Sorry Paul, but although I don't agree with Enigma's insulting Jason, I agree that it is worhtless to try an debate him.

 

In case you never really followed Jason's and Enigma's postings, Enigma did try indeed rebute Jason's drivel once, we all did, but we learned that it simply was a waste of time because Jason ignores anything that goes against his arguments, and even posts videos showing the opposite of what he's arguing sometimes, so we kinda all stopped arguing against him.

Well by that logic if anyone wants to play World of Warcraft, Lineage 2, Dofus, Maplestory and a slew of others I can do those all for free

Private Servers are not all legal. It comes down to if the server owner is using proprietary code (ie stolen code from the main servers), or if they're using full emulation.

Regardless of that however, there is normally licenses in these games that says "Oh no doing Private servers is bad we'll slap your hand" type of crap which normally amounts too "If you played our servers and agreed to it we're going to bust your ass on our servers" type thing.

In the end, private servers aren't new but can be fun. Especially with the rates of your favorite mmo's changed to be much less of a grind hehe.

And no, you cannot modify the xbox version to connect to PS's. It'd be an extremely bad risk even if you could.
