  1. He was indeed, except for the fact that, after the ramming incident, he was regenerating and reforming himself cry.gif

One has to wonder how many such storms could the Emperor whip up...

Also, how did the Emperor succeed in becoming so powerful in the EU, when he was shown to be such a whimp in the RotJ and RotS?

Umm, wimp? He beat Yoda, technically, at the very least it was a draw, and killed three other Jedi while putting up a decent fight against Windu. There are theories that he let Windu beat him, in order to help turn Anakin. Remember, he did nearly kill Luke in RotJ, and was the cause of Vader's death, the two most powerful Force users in the history of the entire Galaxy. Not a wimp, no.

Anyway, I believe his method for gaining power was described at point, though I do not recall when, where, or how. Basically, that last sentence was irrelevant.

  2. In my opinion, most people aren't as stupid as the educated people want to believe. Sure you'd have a more interesting debate but ya know that stupid slogan they flail around "Your vote counts"? Yeah well that would DEFINITELY mean something if it was by popular vote. The system was setup to do a "check" etc and not to mention it's easier than hand counting millions and reporting it. Well that was the case back in the day now with this new technology that just showed up overnight called the internet it'd make it damn simple

    So did a few...

Have you ever talked to the average Hoosier Republican. They know nothing. Fucking nothing. They actually believed that Death Panels bullshit. I've also heard several, "Keep the government out of my Medicare"s here. I'll have to disagree with tyour opinion of the common people.

  3. This is the key phrase: These entities seem to have a physical shape, but being cosmic lifeforms from beyond our space-time continuum means they are not based on matter in our definition of the concept, yet their forms are built on principles similar enough to those of true matter that they appear to be material in their nature.

It's been a while since I've read The Call of Cthulhu or Lovecraft's other works. High school, actually. Anyone here read any more recently than 15 years ago? tongue.gif

Yes, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't be effected. It just means that we do not how it would be effected.

  4. I saw it a bit differently. I thought it appeared as a condemnation of the way we and many other countries have behaved in the past. Sort of a cautionary tale.

The preview I saw definitely portrayed the humans as the heroes. I haven't watched the one you posted, can't at the moment. Might be different trailers.

  5. Well, Chtulu is one of the "Great Old Ones" (seen in Wikipedia)cry.gif

I don't think that Palpatine's Force Storms are going to be much of a threat against him... tongue.gif

Ummm....maybe I'm misinterpreting, but that says nothing about them being invincible, or impervious to storms of Force Energy. Sure, they are colossal in size, but so is a FLEET of warships.

  6. Up top. That's what the thread was about, actually. The new James Cameron movie.

I was perfectly aware. Cameron's movie does look decent, yet, from the previews, it looks as if it is glorifying the American way killing everything that isn't us. I do not like it.

  7. Well, the Emperor can create Force Storms large enough to destroy entire battle fleets, in the EU, so I see little reason he couldn't defeat Cthulu. The massive Force Storm should do the trick, kill the Emperor, as well, though.

  8. The Thread did not specify which Khaless was meant, therefore JMS's analysis may be valid.

One thing that had me thinking though:

What material is the Bat'Leth made of?

Would it be able to resist a Lightsabre blade for one or two hits before being cut?

Still, I think the most likely fight would be Khaless the Clone vs Vader the Cripple, so Vader with Force powers still wins...

Without though, remember that it supposedly takes Jedi powers to properly wield a Lightsabre without cutting yourself with it.

The weapon may be more dangerous to Vader then to Khaless... huh.gif

A normal person can use one, but they have to be really fucking careful. One over swing and it is over. One other thing to consider is that in most lightsaber battles the Force user is relying on battle precog, quite heavily.

  9. Seriously, nobody has the nerve to take the other side on this one? You just have to get a little bit creative. I mean, who\'s the real Kahless? It\'s not some regular old Klingon dude, with mortal failings... let\'s suppose he\'s really the immortal god-hero the legends make him out to be. Not the cloned dude that\'s supposed to be Kahless reborn, that\'s pretty clearly a regular guy, we have to assume the priests got it wrong. In that case, Vader is toast. Force choke? Dude can hold his breath for three days and three nights straight (TNG:\"Birthright\"), so the force choke won\'t cut it.

Lightsabers are cool. Cut through almost anything. Unfortunately, it can take a lightsaber some time to cut through thermally resistant materials. In the forging of the original batleth, Kahless dips his hair in lava and twists the hot rock into shape with his bare hands (TNG: \"Rightful Heir\"). Both his skin and hair are obviously supernaturally resistant to thermal attacks, and thus lightsaber swipes that would decapitate most mortal beings will barely nick his lava-resistant hide. The lightsaber will only be useful in disarming Kahless; since Vader isn\'t the nimble fellow he used to be, and simply limps slowly around, it is now a grappling contest between an asthmatic dude and a superhuman immortal with inhuman strength who has the aerobic endurance to fight through an entire army without a water break (DS9: \"Let he who is without sin...\" \"Looking for Par\'mach in all the wrong places.) or to engage in a twelve-day long duel (TNG: \"New Ground\", \"Firstborn\"). Vader goes down in the third round after Kahless breaks his inhaler.

That was EASY! Set me up something harder, like Darth Vader versus a fluffy bunny rabbit. \\snark

    wink.gif \"My name is... Tim!\"

Even in those circumstances Vader could just launch him a good distance away using the Force, and get the fuck out. Not a victory, but at least it isn't a loss. Also, how resistant would Kahless be to a strong electrical charge? Would Force Lightning have any effect? Couple possibilities there.

Also, since we are making assumptions that you yourself have said go against what is decided upon by the characters in the canon episodes, I reserve the right to use all Force Wank possible. Vader just stops his heart using the Force. Anakin could do it before he became Vader. (Star Wars NJO, Force Heretic III)

  10. Without doing any calculations, I'm betting the Defiant wins.

    What say you?

    Stop right there.

Without doing any calculations? What? Are you serious?

This is the same exact kind of bullshit we've had to deal with from Graham Kennedy and RSA. The first instance someone says they're not bothering with calculations is the moment they admit that they just don't really want to bother, and instead would rather waste my time with unsupported bullshit claims.

Go back, do the math, learn to actually fucking debate, then we'll talk.

    Yeah there's your first mistake.

You're entering into a debate where, like it or not, people do calculations. I know, the temptation to do it all by gut feeling and intuition is strong. I do it all the time. You look at a bunch of fighter craft and then something bigger and stronger like the Defiant, which spends all its time taking down big Dominion and Cardassian cruisers all day long and naturally you want to say Defiant.

But the thing is blahblah Star Wars firepower calcs, we've seen proton torpedoes do some pretty good damage such as in TCW, and yeah I say the Y-Wings, and I'm also going to say get used to a lot of calcs being thrown around like math porn.

Some math is better than no math, after all, otherwise you end up with engineering outsourced to our biggest strategic adversary while everyone lines up to kiss their sphincters.

Both right, however, I would like to point to some proof that you can join in on the debate without doing any calculations. *points to self* Just can't start topics like this, and you must stay away from the hardcore number crunching threads. You have to debate canon and the validity of material as well evaluate competency of characters from and different battle tactics. Stuff like that. 'course everyone will always point and laugh at you if you try, but it's not all bad. tongue.gif

  11. Why people just don't use REMEMBER me and it keeps you logged in for days I'll never know...

In any event the login system is doing a few little backflips at the moment. Should be stable from now on.

I'm permanently logged in on my home computer. I just don't wanna log in.

  12. Well, let's be honest. It's not any more a cartoon than the CGI effects in Episodes 1-3. When you really think about it, what is CGI? Whether or not it's designed to look realistic, in the end it's all computer generated animation. I really don't see a difference, and really trying to ascribe less importance to the CW movie and TV series because of it is really a specious argument.

The medium isn't the issue, that's an absurd assumption. It's the careless way in which it is produced, along with the target audience. The target audience (children, thinking about 30+ year old college professors and scientists in the debate watching the show is hilarious)allows lazy editing and less than accurate firepower effects shown in the CGI battle sequences. Kids couldn't care less about the accuracy of the firepower, they watch it because it is a cartoon, not to decide if these ships could destroy the enterprise. The purpose of this show is to sell merchandise to children, so, yes, it is pretty ridiculous to seriously pick this show apart for the debate.

  13. ...You know there is this cool new invention called private messages... or the even newer thing called visitor messages on your profile...

Yeah, fuck off. I was in a hurry and wasn't thinking about it. Not that it really matters, you just enjoying being the biggest fucking asshole that you can possibly be. Well, enjoy.
