  1. Now, I know that magnetic north is changing, and that it will completely reverse, but I was under the impression that that took thousands of years of them gradually shifting, and it was not an instantaneous thing. Also, how the hell could scientists accurately predict the changing of the poles? I want to know the scientific and mathematical processes involved. I just want to know how it is done.

  2. Otherwise, a virus/trojan/worm can hide in active files that cannot be altered for security reasons while running and keep reinfecting things even after it's been deleted from one spot.

I hate it when they do that. Such a fucking headache.

  3. Okay to be fair, earlier this year yes I did speed down the highway at over 100mph. Reason being though my friend was in extreme pain and we couldn't wait for an ambulance so I drove her to the hospital. HOWEVER I did call 911 to tell them we were coming and a police car escorted us most of the way since he was only a block away when I started.

I'm more than willing to just let this go, because as I've already mentioned, I should have been going slower, but this quote leads me to believe we have had a slight mis-communication, though it is not necessarily so. I was only going 35 mph(admittedly, the speed limit for the corner was 25, though the speed limit for the rest of the way was 45, I was going 50) and was not overtly speeding. I likely wouldn't have even been pulled over, since tickets don't even start until 10mph over the speed limit in my state. The speed was even the reason I lost control(that was the tire, and my slightly too sharp turn), but it was the reason for the exaggerated reaction. I only bring this up because it appears as if you had thought me to be speeding wildly, I was not, though it is largely irrelevant.

Everyone screws up but they do get called on it. You were an idiot for doing what you did and are an idiot now for whining about other people judging you because you posted an account that made you a fool and an idiot. I've screwed up (I did move to the U.S. from Canada. smile.gif ) and I deserved to be called on anything I did wrong. Grow a set Airlocke. You don't want anyone to call you an idiot or worse then stop posting and stop breathing.

I had wondered when the testicle reference would come. Seems to be inevitable.

Also, why the fuck would you leave Canada? I wish I lived there... *wistful gaze north*

  4. Exactly. It's a moot point unless the shielding could be somehow brought down. It could certainly work then. But it's a known fact that it was ray shielded. And ray shields are designed to block energy weapons like blasters and Turbolasters, not KE projectiles like torpedoes. Now we come to the purely bizarre and speculative. A pattern buffer device encased inside a Proton torpedo carrying the pattern of a Tri-Cobolt device. Total fanwank, but fun to think of nonetheless. biggrin.gif

This weapon has some potential. I like your thinking. Sadly, it comes nowhere close to the badassery of Jedi-fanwank, but it is still a cool idea.

  5. For starters if you didn't want people to call you an IDIOT for doing something stupid then don't post a retarded move. Secondly I never said I've never made a mistake considering I've made many and I have sped before. In HS I did racing however it as in a semi controlled enviorment. Outside of that I, yes actually, NEVER sped on streets no matter if I knew them or not.

It's too easy for kids to dart out or shit to change the condition of the road and you can lose control.

One thing I've never understood about people is why they are so willing to judge. It bothers me. Everyone screws up, everyone does some pretty bad shit, and most people know this about themselves, yet everyone still feels that they are in a position to tell everyone else how stupid they are. Remarkable, really. Probably why I hate people, I just don't understand, sometimes.

  6. You idiot! Deflector shielding\deflector dish\navigational deflector shielding are all of the same and if you paid any attention to the link you posted, it is exactly what I said. It is to deflect anything in the ship's way in a non combat role. IT IS ON ALL THE TIME! IT IS NEVER LOWERED UNLESS THE CAPTAIN HAS A DEATH WISH!

This is the first paragraph from the link you posted.

    Are you completely and utterly devoid of any intelligence? Do I ha...ve to br....ea....k up al...l of my wo....rd...s so yo...u ca...n un....der...sta.....nd wh....at I am wr....iti.....ng?

Deflector shields are not the shields used in combat. Every starship has a shield grid designed for combat.

How old are you Jason? 5? 7? 9? You cannot possibly be an adult for you are too dense.

You posted wrong. The shielding you mentioned are the battle variant and not the one that is used for navigation.

I swear, if you get any more dense, you'd collapse and form a black hole.

I believe he has said that he is a 25 year old disabled person. Might have been in the Isd curbstomp thread. Here it is. Post 86.

  7. Well, first of all, I don't know anyone who has never made a mistake, or never sped for that matter, so shut the fuck up, Enigma and Paul. Secondly, I am also happy that I am alive. cool.gif

    Now, about that airplane...

Also, my former high school football team are undefeated and just won the Regional Championship. They play semi-state at home on Friday. Awesome sauce.

Also also, we need an emoticon for awesome sauce. It would be awesome. sauce.

  8. I was driving home on a road that I knew very well, so, naturally, I was speeding. Took a corner too sharp, and my right front tire slid off the road, and was popped off the rim. I lost control of the car, and began to slide up the bank on the inside of the corner, towards some trees. Wrenched the wheel to the left and, because of the jacked up steering caused by the tire, went shooting across the road(thank God, no one was coming)over a bank and into a field. Managed to gain control and stop about 3-4 meters shy of a pond. Luckily, the only damage was the tire, which was fixed for free under my warranty. I was so fucking lucky.

  9. "Dear Airlocke(sub-in for real name),

I have just been informed that I am permitted to bring five students guests with me to dinner with Jeffrey Zaslow (co-author of the Last Lecture and University Speaker) this coming Tuesday, November 10, at 5:30 pm in the Heritage Ballroom. I am writing to formally invite you to accompany me to this event. The dinner will be attended by approximately 25 individuals, including Zaslow, the University President and Cheri, faculty and students. I am certain that you will be an excellent ambassador for our university, and I have been personally impressed with your thoughtful and articulate presence at ISU to date.

Please let me know at your earliest convenience if you will be able to participate. Dress at the event will be for business, and the dining experience will be semi-formal (probably an elegant buffet). I will plan to meet you and the other students that I will invite in Rhoads Hall at 5:00, or you are free to join us at the Heritage Ballroom just before 5:30.

I hope you can attend with me.

    Albert Einstein"

I love being a raging bad ass. This should be interesting.

  10. As I mentioned in a previous thread, the phaser blast may not have been the cause. IIRC, The Enterprise's shields had been taken down in the initial encounter with the Borg in that episode, and Giordi was just now getting them back up, and was not capable of restoring them to full power. The 58% could be all that Giordi was able to restore. I would have to watch the episode again, but I am pretty sure about this.
