I Believe in Barack Obama. I Believe in Tomorrow. :)

Yeah, I'm sure you were way better off with Warmonger Bush in office. I mean, he was after all responsible for the improving of your economy, right? Oh wait... Come on, after Bush, can Obama be so bad? At least now, you have someone who can form ideas and actually speak, not a trained monkey talking about "nucular" weapons... And Tyralak? It is better over here... Less unemployement, less bankrupcies, more people still capable of paying their mortgages, and, as its been said, free healthcare... All of this just a short border-hop away...

SW Super Beings vs. ST Super Beings

The Dowd, the Organians, Trelayne, the Prophets, the Pagh-Wraiths... Yes, ST still wins hands down...

    ISD curbstomps the Enterprise

I don't see it as being any better. First, he needs to prove or show strong evidence of how powerful it is. Then, he needs to prove that an ISD's shields cannot stand up to that power. He has done nothing of the sort. Both arguments are like this: "I say X is stronger because B says so. Prove me wrong..."
  6. I'm a French Quebecker, and even I don't like the Bloc Québécois. They're strong with the old people who are afraid of the "Big Bad Anti-Quebec Canadian Parties", and with people who just don't understand that the Bloc doesn't contribute to anything, since they can never lead the country. Problem is, they are also strong because no other party has done much of anything right in the last years, Like you said, the Liberals are composed of the same bunch of corrupt politicians, the Conservatives are dictator wannabees, and the NPD seem to stem right out of the Hippy 70's, and have ultra-backwards ideas of what this country needs... Who to vote for, I asks ya?

    ISD curbstomps the Enterprise

I think it's because he knows no movie shows anything remotely approaching the ICS in Firepower when the math is done, and he absolutely wants SW to win, no matter if it doesn't agree with that "pesky thing you call logic and math!"

SW Super Beings vs. ST Super Beings

And as his reply to Sisko when he was told "I'm not Picard!" indicates, he wanted to be hit, and found it amusing, so even if the Jedi hit him with their LightSabres, I doubt very much that a being who needs weapons that create super-novas to kill will be much worried by a "light-stick"...

    Stormtrooper vs. Redshirt

In TOS, I believe it was Sulu who fired multiple "smaller" beams, that acted a bit like a "widebeam" setting in later Trek. In "A Piece of the Action", the ship Phasers are used in Widebeam "stun" setting to incapacitate opposing forces in a street... In TNG, although I don't think it's ever been seen, Riker once threatened to use it on building once I believe (when he was in a "mental institution")... In DS9, that was the example I was thinking of, when they were being drilled on Changeling infiltrations... And in Voyager, Tuvok used it to incapacitate the whole bridge crew on stun.

    Stormtrooper vs. Redshirt

We've actually seen widebeam settings used in TOS, TNG and DS9 as well, so it's not like it's a special setting or anything... They should have used it more often, but I guess it was just a question of power consumption and diminished range...

    Favorite Video Game (or series)

I'm missing something here then, because I was under the impression that for these types of games, for example SW Galaxies, you needed to pay every month after you had bought the game in order to continue playing... That's not the case?

    Stormtrooper vs. Redshirt

Why do you think Starfleet invented the "Wide-Beam" setting on their weapons? When your security officers can't hit the proverbial elephant in a six feet wide corridor, invent a weapon that covers 6 feet of width...

    Favorite Video Game (or series)

I suppose you meant "pay a fee", and not "play a free"? But still, paying again, month after month, after you've also bought the game, would be like buying a DVD, and then needing to pay every month in order to watch it again... Not interested, but thanks for the suggestion anyways... I'm kind of an old-fashioned gamer (some people would even stop at "old" ), so I prefer to play on my console, under my terms...

    A hard scifi setting

About the "Atomic Rocket" site? I've been there, and it's nice, and not at all biased. It trounces any and every SciFi setting that defies know scientific laws, including SW and ST equally. About the topic? "2001, A Space Odissey"... This is as hard as Science-Fiction will ever get. Sure, it pushed the known limits, and the time frame as well, but it is based in real science (or what was real at the time it was made)... I love this movie, and liked the second one even though it was a bit less... everything...

    ISD curbstomps the Enterprise

Well, actually, since you state: "An ISD cannot be defeated by any ST ship!" The burden of proof is on you. The ICS states that a Clone Wars ship had that much firepower, but it doesn't say anything about an ISD. First, you need to prove that an ISD is as powerful as a Clone Wars ship, then, you need to prove that no ST ship can match that Firepower. Then others will be able to come up with counter arguments, but for the moment, the Burden Of Proof is on YOU!!!

    Favorite Video Game (or series)

I agree entirely with you. KOTOR 1 was a very fun game, and one you passed the first level, it was a lot less linear. And talk about fun: you could customize your characters powers, and weapons and armor... Super Kewl!!! KOTOR 2 started well enough, but it also felt unifinished to me (background checks on the game's devellopment says that the programmers had to rush it out, so the HK droid angle, and the ending itself were left as they were, even though there was supposed to be a lot more play on these angles)... The next KOTOR is supposed to be an online game, life SW Galaxies. I hate online games, where you must not have a life in order to progress and keep up with the other players who have no life... I much prefer games where you can play at your own pace, and keep progressing enough to have fun, just like the first two games...

    This shall be interesting

Ali-Sama, your list resembles mine (with the exception of the anime parts, I mostly have Ranma 1/2, Wings of Honneamise, Sol Bianca 1 & 2, Arislan, Ninja Scroll). I also have pretty much any kind of movie, I've yet to find someone who didn't like anything I had (I have over 400 movies, plus series). One question: Forever Knight... Where'd you get it? I loved that show, and have never seen it in DVD stores near my house.

    Daily Exploits Thread

Last Friday, went out with a friend and we danced until 3am. Had dinner with old friends on Saturday, breakfast with other old friends on Sunday, and our weekly Shadowrun game with still other old friends on Sunday evening. I think the key word here is "old"... Yes, I am old...

Proof that blasters are not KE weapons.

As has been pointed out by some people here, since Blasters and Turbolasers use energy as their main damage "giver", then they are indeed frequency-based weapons. Enigma, since we know enrgy has a frequency, and you say SW weapons don't, then it would be up to you to prove it...

    Stormtrooper vs. Redshirt

Then, by the same token, we are forced to assume that the Federation Redshirts are also competent, because they represent Starfleet's security forces, so then we also have to assume that they wouldn't be there if they were incompetent. So, assuming both sides can aim, and use their equipment well, Starfleet forces have tricorders, more powerful weapons that can fire in widebeam mode, and actually duck in a firefight. I still give it to the "Redshirts"...

    Stormtrooper vs. Redshirt

<p class='citation'>Quote</p><div class="blockquote"><div class='quote'>Well the purpose of the Redshirt/Goldshirt is death. At the very least, Storm Troopers have the advantage in reputation(in-universe) as scary and imposing killing machines. While we don't really get tot see any competent showings on-screen, we are forced to assume that there are some off-screen.</div></div> No, the purpose of the Redshirt/Goldshirt is security, which, against unamed characters that are not the "monster/alien of the week", do pretty well (DS9's protection vs Klingons, security personnel in Nemesis, etc)... While the Stormtrooper's reputation is more along the line of loyal servants of the Empire who are willing to do anything ordered. But scary? I think not... They can't aim, can't fight, and don't have better strategies then the Redshirts/Goldshirts who are only supposed to be the equivalent of MPs. And we are not forced to assume any competent showings offscreen... If anything, since we see Stormtroopers are so incompetent, we should be forced to assume anybody that cannot fight them is even more incompetent... I give it to the Redshirts/Goldshirts, because at least they duck and take cover in a fight...

USS Defiant vs Y Wing Squadron

<p class='citation'>Quote</p><div class="blockquote"><div class='quote'>I can see the Nebulon-B tracking the Defiant, releases the Y-wings (why the Ys and not A or X wings I do not know), the squadron would do a quick hyper jump to the Defiant's location, unleash everything including the kitchen and then hyper out of the Defiant's reach. Bonus if they do a flank attack. Hyper out when the Defiant turns to meet then and then again attack it's rear. I think the rebels would call this Operation Ass-Banging. </div></div> First off, Hyper jumps aren't instantaneous in SW (at least, not in any movie). Secondly, while they're "unleashing everything", the Defiant will be fighting back, and hitting quite hard indeed, the "one shot one kill" kind of hard, so I don't see this going too well for the Y-Wings. I'm not even sure they'd be wishing for a second round. Thirdly, while the first attack may indeed be a surprise, the others won't, and the ship will be expecting it. But even a first, surprise attack would not necessarily do much damage. The Defiant's armor alone stood up to ST capital ship fire when her shields went down, and for quite some time. She's not a fragile ship... And as Tyralak mentioned, it can cloak... <p class='citation'>Quote</p><div class="blockquote"><div class='quote'>The combat depends on how smart you play it. You can take out the defiant class with Y wings, if you do it right. 1:) Ion blasters are just as effective on trek ships and shields as sw ones in which case it can knock out the ship, like the bree did. 2:) If not, assuming they can adjust to the shields and just bring them down then you can corral in the defiant and use hypespace jumps(if possible) to cut it off and shoot it down. (this also assumes you disable the warp drive but leaving means it looses anyhow)</div></div> 1) Says who? Remember the Breen energy dampening device that looked a lot like an ION cannon shot? Remember the shield modifications made to Federation ships that made them impervious to the weapon later on? Who's to say this doesn't make it impervious to an ION cannon as well? 2) See my responses to Enigma...

USS Defiant vs Y Wing Squadron

Actually, Styroks, if the Y-Wings are the ones seen in the Clone Wars animated series, the Defiant's even more maneuverable. Remember we're talking about fighters having trouble evading a slow moving pulse from an Ion cannon...
