    ISD curbstomps the Enterprise

Starfleet does hold the lives of its crews in higher regards, I agree with you. This still doesn't mean it was necessary to blow up the other ship. As I said, the main dish being used allows them to focuse the power of the beam, where exploding the ship would have created an omnidirectional explosion, not ensuring that there was enough energy where needed to get free. We have to many unknowns to jump to your conclusion and hold it as the only possible one...

ASVSers: Why oh why do you hate Mike so?

Ah, but that's not being opiniated, that's being an obtuse moron... Quite different...

ASVSers: Why oh why do you hate Mike so?

I can't hate a guy I don't know. I don't like his debating style, but I certainly don't hate him. I even share some of his point of views, mostly pertaining to politics, and human rights (where criminal's rights end and ours should begin, etc...). That's it, end of story... I think the real question SDA wanted to aks is: Why do a lot of people, on a lot of boards, still keep talking about him and SDN? The answer is quite simple: SDN is a very big vs site, and has been there for a long time, and, like it and its conlcusions or not, it is a model of a successful vs site. Also, a lot of people still don't agree with their conclusions, and since the debate is essentially over at SDN, these people need to address these conclusions elsewhere. As for Mike, well, he's the one who started SDN, and I said it before, and I'll say it again, his site is well presented, his analyses well written (even if biased). His determination never to be proven wrong have pushed some people to be just as thorough as he is in counter analyzing everything, to the point of obsession. In other words, like it or not, he's a vs reference...

There's also the fact that there's no reason any of you guys should be bothered by an SDN brown-noser. Freedom of speech everyone, freedom of speech... Ignore option, everyone, Ignore option...

    Summer Glau appreciation thread

Except for Natalie Portman, none of the actresses named are better looking then Summer Glau. While I do agree she's not the hottest one out there, I too find her quite attractive (she reminds me of Winnie in the Wonder Years). So don't despair Tyralak, you have another Summer Glau fan on the boards...

    Favorite Star Trek Series

My favorite would be the new Abrams one, followed by the Undiscovered Country, and then the Wrath of Khan (or the Wrath of Khan and then the Undiscovered Country, I can't decide... )...

    One Stormtropper vs USS Enterprise

He probably would. See, since Stormtroopers are such bad marksmen, this lone trooper, while trying to take over engineering, would try to shoot the security personnel who tried to stop him. He would, of course, miss catastrophicaly, meaning he would hit an important component of the Warp Core, and cause a Core breach that would destroy him and the ship. In a certain way, he would win...

    ISD curbstomps the Enterprise

Perhaps they felt it was a bit premature to blow up a starship to free themselves when they had what they thought was another solution. After, the Brattain was still fully functional, so they had probably planned on taking her along in the first place, since losing a ship would still be costly for Starfleet. There's also the possibility that the burst from the deflector was more controlled then just blowing up the Brattain, or that it required a "Spacially Inverted Quantum Barionic Tachyon Flux" to work properly. But no, contrary to what you want to believe, it does not, in any way, mean only one thing...

    Stormtrooper vs. Redshirt

Ok, in that case, you agree there needs to be something that is sacrificed. Either range (less range means almost equal power on wide beam), or power (same range means less power on the wide-beam)... But we both agree that it is en existing feature, and that it is useful in some circumstances...

    Monsterprise

We've discussed this on SFJ, and we concluded that: The shot, of Pike coming out, points to an 700-800 meter E-alt. A scene with humans on the nacelles points to nacelles of 40 meters of width at the "wings", again pointing to a 700-800 meter ship. One of the members there, Mike DiCenso, has done this scaling work: But in no way is it 300 meters like the old E-nil...

    Stormtrooper vs. Redshirt

Well, doesn't that go along with the "extra power" issue? For example, you use the same power setting, same power output, only you widen the beam. Won't that make the beam spread its power on a greater area, thus weakening it? Would you not need more power to make sure the beam has the same power output over an extended area?

    What are you reading?

Mostly words, but sometimes numbers as well... I've recently read "Les Fourmis" (the Ants) by Bernard Werber, and I started his second book, "Le Jour des Fourmis" (the Day of the Ants). I'm mostly concentrating on the play I'll act in, in three weeks, memorizing lines and so on...

Don't you find him amusing? Why ban him? If you don't like him, you can ignore him. I find it amusing that he is as obsessed with SDN, if not more, then he says we are. All we read in his posts is how much better SDN is then here. Which makes me wonder why he's here in the first place... Perhaps he's an SDN pledge, and being an annoying idiot on this site is his initiation to be admitted as a full fledged SDNer...

    Stormtrooper vs. Redshirt

See, we're getting some of that enlightenment right here with you, and its basically: I don't agree, so you're wrong... So I don't think I'll go there for some more of the same... But, since you keep saying how wrong we are, why don't you try an build an argument here, without all your friends to back you up? For example, what cannon proof do you have that Stormtroopers are excellent marksmen? Obi-Wan's quote? The problem is, we've seen firsthand, with our own eyes, how incompetent they are. We've seen it against kneeling, black-clad (against white bakcground) rebel soldiers in the Tantive IV, against other rebel soldiers on Hoth and Bespin, and against teddy bears on Endor. So, what is that CANNON PROOF that you mention? Thanks... Agreed about the power generation, as my following post had said. And as for the tactics limitation, I think it's more of a difference in mentality between the "Kill them all and sort them out later" Empire and the "I know they're shooting at us but keep asking them if they want to be our friends" Federation... The problem is, it was not a dream, but an artificially maintained state of hypnosis. Again, it wasn't until what they made Riker perceive was so different then what Riker should "normally" perceive that he came to realize he wasn't living things for real. Sometimes we dream of ordinary things we see everyday, and it isn't until we do something out of the ordinary that we realize we're dreaming, like suddenly starting to fly, or someone telling me I could kill an elephant with a 9mm Beretta, for example... You find this setting useful too? Concession accepted... And as for the last part, since you failed to provide any relevance of the possessed crew to the subject at hand, then it is I who accepts your concession...

    In defense of TDiC

You're right, at least, at SDN, when someone shows you how wrong you are, you don't need to refute his arguments, you can just ignore them and say "It's been dealt with, ya Moron!". The perfect cop out...

Proof that blasters are not KE weapons.

Oh, I don't know, how about the fact that the people hit by the Phaser shots don't get up after they've been thrown down? Just get on Youtube, and watch the fight in "Siege of AR-558". Once the people are hit, they get thrown backwards and don't get up. They're not dazed, they're dead... As a matter of fact, except for the 1 Stormtrooper thrown back from Han's blaster impact, I haven't seen many people getting thrown backwards when hit by blaster bolts, except for the flimsy battle droids, and yet you still claim Blasters are KE and Phasers aren't... What weapon? Do you mean slugthrowers? How do you adapt to objects?

SW Super Beings vs. ST Super Beings

Enigma, when the Organians forced both sides to stop their conflict, they did so by incapacitating weapons of both "Empires", over these "Empires" total territories (as fas as Earth and Kronos, even). So they could indeed stop the DS from firing, no matter how far it places itself. The DS needs to be within a certain range to be effective, while the Organians affected weapons and spaceships lightyears away. Why they didn't interfere later is up for speculation, but not their power... Well, a Pagh-Wraith infested Dukat killed Jadzia, this way: So yes, I do believe an infested person is a threat to a Jedi, especially when a Bounty Hunter is able to kill one... T Well, since Trelayne, even planet-side, had the ability to stop the E-nil, and do whatever he wanted with the crew of the ship, I doubt the Empire could do anything to him. And yes, in the odd chace they could, then his parents would whipe the floor with the Empire...

    Favorite Star Trek Series

    1. TOS: Where a Captain could have balls, show 'em, and use 'em... 2. DS9: Where a Commander/Captain could have balls, show 'em, and use 'em, plus all the multi-episode story arcs... 3. ENT: Even though it pissed all over continuity, it was still the sense of discovery, of the Federation in making, of humanity learning its place in the Galaxy that I liked... 4. TNG: Picard and the rest of the crew. They had onscreen chemistry like no other show before, or after... 5. Voy: They missed the mark by the proverbial mile, even though they had some interesting characters, and some good episodes...

    Darth Vader versus Kahless

I would say Vader. Force powers that have been shown useful in combat before, plus a magic sword that cuts through anything? Kahless doesn't stand a chance...

    Stormtrooper vs. Redshirt

Please then, oh great and powerful one, enlighten us... Don't remember. I'll look it up if I have the time... Well, everything we've seen in ST show us that ship Phasers and hand Phasers behave exactly alike, so if the ship Phasers can fire widebeam, then why not hand Phasers? And the reason why they were brandishing Tommy guns is because they did not want cultural infection. They did not want their technology to fall in the hands of the planets inhabitants, a fact which they clearly state in the episode... While I clearly need to explain that Riker didn't dream anything out of the ordinary for him, and where everything was consequent with his normal way of living, which is why he didn't pick-up something was wrong and that he was dreaming sooner. Or, it really is power intensive, and as you yourself (and many others many times, including me) have mentioned, may need most of its power to use in widebeam setting, making it inpractical in war, but useful in certain occasions... I fail to see how this has any relevance to the subject...

Proof that blasters are not KE weapons.

And yet there are still people claiming that Phasers are purely energy weapons when we see Phaser impacts projecting their targets backwards. Yet once the Borg adapt to the Phaser's frequency, even the kinetic effect is "neutralized". So it all comes down to: Are Blasters slug throwers? No, so then they are using some kind of energy to obtain the kinetic effect. If they use energy, which releases in the form of rays, then they use frequency based weapons, to which the Borg can adapt...

SW Super Beings vs. ST Super Beings

Actually, the Prophets are in the wormhole because it's their home, but we've never had any indication that they could not, if they so desired, move from there. Pagh-Wraiths and Prophets could impart some of their powers on mortal creatures (Dukat, Sisko) and through them fight it out. Trelayne might have been, but his parents weren't, and they're the ones who "kept" Trelayne on the one planet. The Organians, while residing on the planet, have not shown themselves to be incapable of moving, and even more important, they were powerful enough to threaten the Klingon Empire and Earth, all from their own planet. So they would not need to move to affect those they wanted to affect... ST still wins...
