    Very cool little Crustacean

And it's "boxing" arms are also a wonder of natural engineering. This little guy can crack a plexiglass container by punching it, and its arms movements are so fast it creates bubbles which release so much energy, it creates flashes underwater...

    ICS apologists: Defend yourselves.

I agree, movies trump all, however, as Tyralak also stated, nowhere in any movie do we see Firepower even approaching ICS levels... If by large you mean less then 20 meters wide, then yes, they were blasting large asteroids...

Sorry, I'm not too confortable sharing these pics with the whole world at large... Suffice it to say, it is a semi-attached house, less then 18 years old, and I have a 6100 square feet yard and a swimming pool with a heater system (living in Canada means cold water )...

This week-end past, we finally presented the play I had been practicing for many months. It was a great success, many people even telling us that they thought we were better then many profesionnal plays they had seen. Always nice to hear... Oh, and I bought a house...

24th century firepower based on TDiC

Why, thank you for proving my exact point with this statement... See, 35% more powerful means exactly that: The .357 Magnum is more powerful then the Colt Peacemaker, even though they still use the same basic principle, which is exactly my point concerning the Phasers and Torpedoes. They can use the same basic principle but be more powerful at the same time... Actually, while their weapons may not be more powerful, they have become a lot more efficient. Also, your comparison is weak because, while they may both be more militaristic then the UFP, they have never encountered threats more powerful then them (see Borg, Dominion, etc...), requiring that they adjust their defensive and offensive capacities accordingly...

    My XBOX broke again.

Unfortunately, and this is based on my friend's experience with his brand new units, you could have had the same issue even with a brand new XBOX 360. My friend got issues with his two units (he bought the basic one when it came out, broke twice, and then he bought the "Pro" model when it came out, broke once). Like Grandtheftcow said, don't buy such crap (not eaxactly his words, but same meaning)...

24th century firepower based on TDiC

I think you've got me confused with someone else... I've never said either "Visuals trump dialogue" or "Dialogue trumps Visuals", I've always been in-between. Like you, I think that TiDC doesn't seem to convey the extraordinary effects I would expect to see from the attack, but I also cannot simply dismiss 20 ship Captains not batting an eyelash when someone proposed their ships do something which they should know is impossible or not... In this case, what did Geordi say exactly? If it's simply "You know, Phasers and Torpedoes haven't changed much in the last years", that statement is so vague that you need to find other clues to interpret, whether it is other dialogue, or Visual clues... In this case, a lot of Visual clues point to them being more powerful, even if they do seem to work with the same basic mechanisms...

He only said he understood why schools charged students for being thaught, not why their homecoming should be more about advertising then the students. Something which I agree with: Homecoming for the students, and if the school feels so strongly about supporting the Sheriff's re-election, then they should organise an event just for that...

24th century firepower based on TDiC

Hhhmm, let me see: So you're saying that we have to believe that, since Phasers and Torpedoes haven't changed much in the way they act between Kirk's era and Picard's era, that means that their power levels cannot have changed? Ok, so then, I guess even though a .357 magnum still works the same way as a colt peacemaker (single loader, powder-propelled projectile), that they have the same power right? He can mention it as long as he wants, it doesn't change the fact that their power capabilities can, and did, change even if the principle is the same...

24th century firepower based on TDiC

While I agree with this assessment ( ), it doesn't mean that there were no advances in firepower. In fact, it was clearly established in Enterprise that a Kirk-Era ship is more then a match for any Archer-Era ship, even against multiple opponents...

  15. I wasn't making an argument, I was simply saying where the 900 Billion number came from. Since I wasn't trying to defend a position, an exact source didn't seem necessary. Just because you're too stupid to understand that doesn't make the information I gave any less valuable... And if you had an ounce of intelligence, using the information I gave you (DS9, war, 900 Billion estimate), you could have googled that and come up with an answer, but I guess it's too complicated for your tiny brain to compute...

24th century firepower based on TDiC

That's okay, there are so many ST series, not many people can say they saw them all... Going back to Enterprise, in the second season episode "Judgement", the NX-01 goes (again) at high speeds (higher then an ISD's, I mean) in a planetary ring filled with big sized asteroids (they hide behind 1 close to 500-600 meters) without any apparent fear for their safety. The Klingon BoP firing at them hits an asteroid that came up behind the NX-01, and quite literally shattered up half of it in tiny chunks (most were small enough to be hard to see after the explosion). Now, given that the NX-01 is roughly 200 meters long, and about 60-80 meters wide, the asteroid was about 40 meters in size. Note that the NX-01 endured at least half a dozen of those shots without any visible damage, and minimal sparks inside... Nowhere near kiloton yields, but for Enterprise's time, not too bad...
  17. Well, if you're too dumb to look for it yourself, then why the hell should I find it for you? By the way, I gave that information for "information's sake", I didn't know I was entering a world-altering debate... Well, Rain Man (the original) could calculate the number of toothpicks on the floor at a glance, so these guys could have very well been super geniuses at probability calculations...

Did you see anyone here say SW sucked? I sure didn't, and I also happen to love SW. I have all the movies and series, and have some of the better novels. The setting is very entertaining and interesting, just like ST... What we are saying though, is that SW should be analyzed using the same parameters and criticism as ST is, and that people should not accept all SW wank and then over analyze ST, or vice-versa... Oh, and by the way, the NX-01 navigated through asteroids just fine in the second season episode "Singularity". The unpolarized hull survived an encounter with a 15-20 meter wide piece of planetary rubble (what seemed like solid rock) just fine...

    Official Starfleet Jedi thread

Tyralak, why did you say you like it? Now SDA will be really, really mean with you and call you all sorts of mean names, because, you see, SDN doesn't think highly of Starfleet Jedi, soooo, since SDN doesn't like it, SDA will not like it either, being the SDN brown-noser that he is...

    So fucking exhausted...

Actually, at school, you pay so that people may teach you things, and show you how to do the work you are asked to do. Then, you practice these new skills of yours, and you get graded on how well you understood, and how good your presentation was, and it also depends on howmuch effort you put into your work. You also learn the value of making friends with the right people, of being liked by your teachers who, just like your bosses in years later (although it shouldn't be that way), will most likely give you better grades (or jobs/responsabilities) if they like you, and if they think you like them. School is basically where you learn about life. Each year resembling more and more real life then the previous one, where finally at University level, you realize that you can be a slacker and pass, just like in real life, as long as you have the right friends, or rich parents...

    what happens if

Happened to me with my very first E-mail account. I chose the name Praeothmin (name of an Elf wizard I've played in the past, which I invented, full name Praeothmin Thunbaerio), and I was surprised to see that I had to choose Praeothmin7, because there were already six of them registered... 6 people had stolen my name... I never knew where these 6 Praeothmin came from to this day, and I've never been duplicated since...
