  1. <p class='citation'>Quote</p><div class="blockquote"><div class='quote'>increase in frequency = increase in energy always. It's not a direct proportion is it? It would be exponential right?</div></div>

when you refract it you also decrease the wavelength. if you just wanted to increase the frequency.

frequency is speed of light divided by wavelength.

the amount of ke is the frequency times the planck constant.

    http://en.wikipedia....Planck_constant

so if you double the frequency you double the ke.  The wavelength affects the momentum and intensity.

so when they up the frequency they are also increasing its intensity, reducing wave length and etc.

the effect can be seen if you take a magnifying glass and use sunlight to make things catch fire.

  2. <p class='citation'>Quote</p><div class="blockquote"><div class='quote'>Frequency could be described as how many full cycles of movement for some object (be it a bullet from a machine gun, light wave, radio wave...) to move from 1 defined point to another defined point. That point can be either time or distance. When I think of frequency, I think of sinusoidal waves (sine and cosine, not as much the other trig functions) and how many periods cycle through in 360 degrees. I hope this makes sense. I'm really tired. I can clarify for anybody later...once I get sleep!!! It might not be for a few days though.</div></div>

^_- Get sleep! I know what it means. I have read it. the idea was to see what people think. for example phasers have a carrier beam frequency which they modulated to beat borg shields. A carrier energy wave is like a laser in essence, which is focused em radiation. So what does it mean? when you up the frequency of a photon. yes it alters the number of times it repeats per second. But we are talking about weapons here, so what does it mean. When you increase the frequency of em radiation it gains kinetic energy.

refracting light for instance modulates it, it will not only alter the frequency but the wave length. A diamond lense would shift red light to the uv range with both frequency and wavelength, increasing it;s ke in result. it is doubled.

  3. Many novels, movies and tv shows, use words like, frequency, modulation, amplitude, polarity, phase and intensity when talking about weapons and defensive systems.

I will make a few topics which will discuss each one of the above and how they effect the system. The terms can be used broadly as in none energy based weapons as the words can also be used for them.  We will explore what we know, and we believe is, and together reevaluate our assumptions and form a better picture.

To start the series, we shall start with frequency.

Before we put up textbook definitions, please tell us what you think frequency is, how it would apply to different weapons, shields and defense mechanism.  None combative examples like radio and music would also be valid for this example.

Please feel free to give your honest opinion. I am no expert and do not claim to know everything. So when I give my opinion. If I am wrong I am wrong. That is the process in learning.

  4. <p class='citation'>Quote</p><div class="blockquote"><div class='quote'>He thinks he is great, he's very proud of himself.  He constantly brags about how many books he's sold, how many he's published, how fast he "writes".  It'd be for the best if he'd die sooner rather than later, IMO! He's on tour right now for Winds of Dune, maybe his plane will crash.  Oh, and he has quite the fanboy following, he even has his own super secret website http://www.kjasf.com/ invite only.  He gives out freebies for reviews.

I put writes in quotes because he doesn't actually sit down at a computer or typewriter, he goes for hikes and records his shit on a little tape recorder and sends it off to a typist.   </div></div>

most of the writing happens in the editing. if he does not edit what he writes and has a horrible editor. end result.

  5. <p class='citation'>Quote</p><div class="blockquote"><div class='quote'>Oh! A thread for me! lol

Dune is to me what LotR is to a lot of people.  It is one of the few series (1st four books anyway) that I can read over and over and always learn something new.  I hate KJA for shitting all over FH's legacy.  I hope he dies in a fire.</div></div>

Nah. why fire? let people realize how  bad he is, and have him die of old age.  Living in disgrace is worst then a painful death.

  6. This is the place to learn about and discuss Science. It is a cooperative learning environment for people to help each other better understand “why and how things work”. Please keep an open mind, be respectful and try to stay away from the “colorful metaphors”

I hope that this forum will help future writers, artists and dreamers to produce more coherent works.

If you want help with a vs topic, please do not link to the topic, just present it as a  science question. Not all science oriented people want to take part in the vs topic. For example, if you want to know what

would happen to a particle beam if you modulate the carrier beam's frequency, feel free to make a topic and ask away.

    Enjoy!

  7. The combat depends on how smart you play it. You can take out the defiant class with Y wings, if you do it right.

1:) Ion blasters are just as effective on trek ships and shields as sw ones in which case it can knock out the ship, like the bree did.

2:) If not, assuming they can adjust to the shields and just bring them down then you can corral in the defiant and use hypespace jumps(if possible) to cut it off and shoot it down. (this also assumes you disable the warp drive but leaving means it looses anyhow)

  8. He is like a cheap hooker, except no fun. lol. I did enjoy the books initially then I realized why... recycled dialogue which reminds you of the movies. I wish peter david wrote star wars books.  AC crispine wrote a decent star wars book and she did the spock series where he had a son. <div class='bbc_left'></div>
