I am glad somebody saw the potential. After all Adria had the power that at one time was spread out between all the Ori all for herself and even normal fully ascended beings are supposed to have virtual infinite knowledge and understanding. It is also mentioned that ascended beings gain extra power from the number of worshipers they have. Q has also been shown to have weaknesses against other beings like himself (ok other Q but still weaknesses).

Yea i have been in plenty and seen plenty of fights from my youth and from working as a doorman and giving a guy choking you a good hard shot to the happy sack at least loosens his grip and more than half the time ends the fight. I suppose the deeper the phaser needed to penitrate into the water the more power and disturbance it would cause by continually needing to disintigrate more and more water over and over to reach the depth. Its not like drilling through stone ect that leaves a hole bud, for every meter of depth the beam would be required to disintigrate all the prior meters over and over as the water was replaced, at 1000 meters they would need enough power to essentially disintigrate every one of those thousand meters all at the same time and for every second they continue to fire.

It could be that voyager was not only firing from orbit but also needed to fire through a shit tonne of water to reach the flier likely meaning they would need to fire at a significant power level just to reach the flier let alone damage it enough to make it stop and considerably more to destroy it. While the Delta flier was firing at super close range (as they were getting bashed) on a very low setting just to warn the creature off (although all they did was piss it off).

Considering the Ori are supported by beings with abilities that most cultures would consider to be God like im giving this one to the priors.

They can measure a simple explosion without a target, the only thing they learn about the explosion from shooting a rock is how the explosion effects that particular composition of rock. A 500 megaton explosion hitting jack shit is a 500 megaton explosion if it hits a bowl of rice pudding you do not need the bowl of rice pudding to measure the explosion. Even if the roid was the same size of the torp or smaller the ONLY valid reason it was chosen would be because a small target would be hard to hit and would test the new guidance system they talk about. The lack of vaporisation is most likely due to the fact they had the torps set to the canon ball setting in ST: Undescovered country. We measured how much DET it would take to drill a lower estimate hole the canon depth in inheritance, it came out at around 20 gigatons per seconds. But because we know that phasers are not DET weapons we can only say they have the "equivalant" effect of rougly 20 gigatons per second (if they were DET weapons). Im not sure if i got this right but if the E-D phasers drilled a 50m wide hole roughly 3000km deep the beam would have the equivalent value in DET terms of:- Nickel-Iron = 340 gigatons or a average of 18-20 gigatons per second for the 19 seconds. Obviously the hole was likely wider and the pressure at those depth would make the mterial very dense but the calculator i was forced to use did not go up high enough to calculate a hole larger than 50m or a density past Nikel-iron. Ok so im reading a thread on factpile linked to ASVS and some fella linked these rather outdated gems likely from SDN. Why would the asteroid size be important to measure the explosions?, any target would do no matter the size and composition as it is the blast they are measuring not the effect on the target. Aparantly this guy thinks that using a single max yield torp and wiping out the entire town and its population would have been a good idea, or using phasers and melting the ppl below if the ship moved before the beam was expended was also a great idea. I have not seen this episode in a while but i do recall the defiant had already taken damage. And considering the torp is undamaged when we see it poking through id say it is designed to penitrate then explode. We already did this and the phasers put out a lower estimated equivalant (Mr. Oragahn) of around 20 gigatons per second. I thought its shields were down?. Metrion Gas is well known in ST to be pretty nasty stuff but if the dude has a chemical analysis proving how sucky it is he should post it not speculate.
