    Enterprise-D Vs Covenant Destroyer

Let's try that again, shall we? We know that some of the ships had taken damage--we don't know the extent of the damage the fleet had taken and it's incredibly unlikely that the ships would be so crippled that they'd be incapable of blocking a fraction of the energy you claim they can. It also makes me question the wisdom of the fleet commander given that when his ships were incapable of blocking a mere fraction of said full capacity--he decided to attack a force that would easily be able to toss that out at them. Also, as per my viewing of Halo 2, those MACs weren't at all that fast or impressive. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Halo Legends come out after the TMs? As in, where we saw Booster Frames being capable of blasting their way through the command ship in the middle of the Covenant fleet? And we saw regular missiles being able to damage ships? Even assuming MAC based technology, there's no way these ships should have lost shielding to something as small as say, a fucking Booster Frame if it can take capital ship level nuking. Based on what? We saw that in The Wounded, the Phoenix was able to hit a target within at least 200,000 km. We know from Voyager that ships can travel at .8c and so logically, the torpedoes would have to travel even faster to hit those ships. In other words, we're talking anything from 8.c up to 9.9c--possibly at c itself. Given the speeds that MACs supposedly move at, this would make them incredibly useless. Ah, what wonderful way to ignore ST higher end and shove in your asinine high ends. Face it, both universes have examples of ships possibly being in the high end range of weapons. But we both know that both of them are more or less outliers. The fact is, plasma torpedoes are stated not to work in a way we're used to by Bungie employees themselves and we know that their ships can't exceede megaton range. Those mines and the Booster Frames make this painfully obvious. As for your MACs...we know your ships are light enough to float on water. I highly doubt they'd be able to fire shells that massively powerful or even carry them given their massive weight densities compared to the rest of the ship. As I've suggested before, we're looking at mass reduced weapons. It's the only logical explination and the fact that their ships are so light seems to reinforce this idea. And if not...well, it's an outlier and we sure as hell don't see these MACs firing that fast in the game. Ever.
  2. EMH. A fully humanoid person with the vast majority of Starfleet's medical knowledge programmed into it. The prototype, which was build into the Intrepid and Sovereign class, were capable of assisting in a medical emergency and had full range of sickbay. The EMH Mark II, which was integrated into the USS Prometheus, was capable of full motion throughout a ship when they installed emitters on every deck. We also know that in the episode where Bashir's genetic alterations were made public that the LMH was in fact, in the beginning phases of development. We could probably assume that it was done by either the end of Voyager or by Nemesis. For those wondering, the LMH isn't a replacement for doctors per say, but were used for deep space assignements or outposts that required smaller crews. The program was designed to be basically human-like in every aspect, so as to keep the crew comfortable around them. Um...it is? Is that why they had to replace Luke's hand when Vader cut it off? Ah, good to know that even when he was de-pussified, Vader was still a little pecker. I'd see why. In any case, I know to what Jason was refering to. It's an episod involving Worf getting a devistating blow to his spine and he's pretty much going to be incapable of being of any use. His chances of recovering were at most, 32% of his former mobility. However, another doctor who was onboard at that time, had a knack for trying out experimental procedures (ie, she accidently killed a few people by trying them when standard practices would have saved them...Crusher didn't like to say the least). The procdure was to replicate Worf's spine. Unfortunately, the lack of medical knowledge known on Klingons by both UFP and Klingon officials made such a task difficult, as Klingons had multiple redudencies in their bodies. The procedure was a success, but mostly due to Worf's biological back-ups managing to fix up would have otherwise been a botch. That said, we also don't know the extent of Nog's injury. Remember, he was shot in the leg by a Jem'hadar weapon. As in, the same weapon that killed another man it glanced a couple of years ago in The Ship. He's lucky to be alive and probably only because the Defiant was able to return with reinforcements a few days later and perhaps better medical knowledge of Jem'hadar weapons. Worf's spine, while it had been broken, was probably a great deal simplier than a discharge from an energy weapon. However, given that Starfleet still has to replace eyes and hearts with artifical technology, we could conclude that it's experimental technologies, not something as part of Starfleet standard.

USS Enterpise J vrs a Death Star

From what we know from canon, the Enterprise J is from the 26th century. The same century that shows that are a match for the Sphere Builders, so they're asurdly a temporal power at that point. Not hard to imagine given that they've known about time travel for roughly four centuries and have had it themselves for three. So, the Enterprise J could easily trael back to before the station was even finished. Taking out time travel...we know nothing, absolutely nothing about the Enterprise J. If we are to guess, in spite of canon, we could go with what the designers said: So, if I had to guess, we're probably looking at the UFP being on par with the Asgard, if not superior. Firepower wise, our best guess would be to look at the technological gaps between these ships before. It's a rough guess, but the best we have. Ie, we saw Voyager take out a D7's shields with a single torpedo (well, actually...it wasn't shown...but still). We're looking at probably ships that can take out single 24th century ships with single torpedoes--at most. The shield capacity of the Enterprise D was calculated by the Daystrom Institute to be around 900,000 TJs or roughly 215.4 megatons. Multiplying that by four, it would suggest that 25th century ships are probably around 861.6 megatons. Now, assuming that it requires about the same amount to take down the ships of that time with similar level weapons (ie, 13.9 shots), we can determine the shielding for a 25th century ship being 2,993.37 for their shielding, or about 3 gigatons. That suggests that again, the 26th century ships have torpedoes of roughly 3 gigatons themselves, for torpedoes with around 12 gigatons. Which means its shields are probably around 41.7 gigatons. That's a very, very rough calculation. It would explain why a guy in a ship a few meters in length felt fully comfortable in his 29th century ship's ability to assrape Voyager. Given that Turbolasers are already vastly inferior to even 23rd century ships, the Enterprise J is going to be incredibly well armed and it's probably going to be laughably easy for them to target the exhaust port and fire a few torpedoes. And as retarded as Jason usually is, transphasic torpeodes aren't all that unlikely. This ship, all things considered, could probably clobber a Borg Cube. The turbolasers, even those as numerous as the Death Star sports, are going to be like BB guns. Meanwhile, torpeodes are easily going to pass through the Death Star and its going to blow large gaping holes into the hull. Granted, this is all vague assumptions put together by an assumed linear scale and some non-canon information, but it's the best we can do with the vague information we're given.

    Limitations of Blasters vs. Phasers

However, we do see the Delta Flyer using phasers earlier: So either it's a matter of power (which is hard to believe given phasers on ships can be adjusted to stun settings...) or the Delta Flyer's phasers were adjusted for the mission. The later seems more probable. As for disruptors...I have no idea. Certainly possible though.
  5. Mith

    Limitations of Blasters vs. Phasers

I actually believe it was thirty days. It was supposedly the reason why Janeway couldn't stop Tom from using the Delta Flyer. Then again, that was ship-grade phasers, but I would think the principal would be the same. Needless to say, creating a powerful shockwave at point blank range is about as stupid of an idea as you could get.
  6. Mith

    Limitations of Blasters vs. Phasers

Actually, using phasers in water will create a massive shockwave--or so I'm told. So, it'd be really useful if you're firing into water, but if you're in the water...not so much.
  7. The same that requires me to respond to said response about two months later. I'm not sure what you're getting at. They are vulnerable to that weapon. Clearly so. ISDs themselves carry those sort of weapons so they can disable smaller ships. And while its power requirements are no doubt massive, I highly, highly doubt it's as great as the ISD herself.

    Halo Firepower levels

Okay...and? It just proves that a 30 megaton nuke would take out a Covenant sh9ip. Highly doubtful given that decades later Reach is in the middle of a nuclear winter. It should be noted that 1) they're working off mass reduction technology (ie, the low mass of their ships) and 2) the effective yield of the MAC is going to be determined on how fast it and the target is moving. What is the stated yield for a Shiva again? And absolute hogwash. Again, we know that their ships are actually rated to be lighter than air. There has to be a massive amount of MR and what they said was simply the original weight. And again, you have to take into account relative speed or it's worthless. Any ship moving faster than .4c is going to easily reduce its boom factor to zilch. No it isn't. First of all, you're assuming a yield far greater than anything they've been able to show before in regards to nuclear capability. Second, this quote outright rapes the 80 megaton bunker that they considered to be a big deal at teh start of the war. And yet you're claiming they can create nukes in the double digit gigaton range? How is that bunker at all effective? Your argument doesn't make any sense. Overruled by higher canon, where we see that the 'glassing' is in fact, just turning the planet into a nuclear winterstorm. Try 27 megatons according to Wong's calculator. That makes it vary depending on how the weapon works. That would put the Pillar of Autumn's total yield at about 598 megatons. Impressive, but not really gigaton level. Vid doesn't work.

    Dogfight of the millennium

Probably the Jellyfish. It seems to be a long range scout ship, which is probably going to be vastly superior to a fighter, given Trek capabilities and Wars capability.

    Trekking to War

Chapter Two Rescue Plan Captain’s Log Supplemental The abductor known only to us as Mister Fett has left with his prize: Lieutenant Shelby. Despite our best efforts, Mister Fett has violated the lieutenant and taken her to a heavily armed fortress in the desert. The Columbia has arrived with a security detail to take us the fortress. With any luck, we’ll be able to break into the fortress and rescue her. Kirk watched as the charred remains of his former chief of security was carried aboard the Columbia in a stretcher. He’d probably just end up dropping his remains into one of the twin stars in the system, but he refused to allow his corpse, mangled as it was, to remain on the surface of this hell hole. He followed them up into the shuttle and closed the hatch behind them. Moments later, they lifted off and shot up into the upper atmosphere. “The sensor readouts for the fortress captain,†Spock said. Kirk blinked and rubbed his eyes, “Thank you commander,†he read over the list, “Low powered shield grid, heavily armed patrols on hovercraft, thirty-nine heavy plasma turret emplacements, nine fighters, and a laser defense grid.†“A challenge for sure,†Spock said. “We can’t leave her,†Kirk said firmly. “Captain,†Spock said, “We would need a small army to break into the fortress.†“We could pull personal,†Kirk said, “Plenty more aboard the Enterprise.†“Captain,†Spock said, “I cannot approve of this action. We’ve already lost our chief of security and the other two security officers aboard the Galileo, not to mention the injury of her pilot.†“We can’t let him get away with this.†Kirk said, “I refuse to allow them to hold her captive and…and do what they will with her.†“Captain,†Spock said, “I am beginning to believe that you are making this into a personal vendetta.†“And what should I do commander?†Kirk snapped, “Allow them to keep her? Turn her into a lowly slave that any scum off the streets can pay for? Or do I give them phaser technology?†“Captain,†Spock said, his voice even, “We are galaxies away from our own. It would take countless generations for the Enterprise to make a return trip. Rescuing Lieutenant Shelby puts the entire ship at risk.†“You honestly suggesting we leave her, don’t you?†McCoy said, his face flushed with anger, “You cold blooded devil…even I can’t believe that you would—†“It’s not about what I want doctor,†Spock corrected, “But what is logical. This area of the galaxy has proven to be backwards and barbaric. Giving them weapons in exchange for the life of one of our crewmember could lead to millions—possibly billions of people dying as a result of our actions.†“Damn it man!†McCoy yelled, “Were you listening to that? Certainly those large Vulcan ears of yours could hear her screaming!†For a brief second, Kirk could have sworn that the Vulcan flinched, but the commander’s face became as solid as stone, “I am simply citing logic doctor.†He said, “If we were even ten years from Starfleet, I would suggest an all out attack, but we are not. And we cannot. Those are simply the facts of the matter.†“I’m not leaving her.†Kirk said. “Captain, I believe that you’ve been emotionally compromised,†Spock said, “I cannot—†“I assure you commander,†Kirk snapped, “I am in full control.†“Captain…†“And I agree,†McCoy said, “And you can ask Scotty, Sulu, and the rest of the senior staff. Unlike you, everyone else aboard that ship isn’t a walking ice box.†The Vulcan considered and then turned back to Kirk, “It seems that I have been outvoted.†He said. Kirk nodded, taking a deep breath, “I shall…have your objection noted in the log Mister Spock.†“No need captain,†Spock said. “I would suggest targeting the defense craft with low power phaser strikes and then a full phaser strike to the defense screens.†McCoy shot a sly grin to Kirk “That’s a little overkill, isn’t it?†“The shield will absorb the energy,†Spock said, “but it will overload their power grid. It will give us more time to rescue the lieutenant.†“That still leaves the patrols outside of the fortress,†McCoy said. “The ship’s phasers could stun them,†Kirk said. “But without the transporters we won’t b able to beam down enough personal,†McCoy said, “It’ll get messy.†“A small strike team could get in and out faster than a full invasion force,†Spock said. Kirk nodded, “Yes…hit them hard, get Shelby out, and then get out of orbit before they can retaliate.†McCoy smiled, “I think we have ourselves a plan.†“Let’s get back to the ship,†Kirk said, “I want this plan put into action immediately.†----------------------- Luke watched from afar as the three off worlders got into their shuttle and took off. He looked around, his face still frozen in shock. His uncle was dead, their farm was ruined, and worse his aunt was in the hands of one of Jabba the Hutt’s thug. His red eyes scanned the horizon, his mind scarcely able to comprehend what had just happened. Luke didn’t know how long he had stood there, but the twin suns had already begun to descend over the sky when the sound of a speeder finally brought him out of his daze. He turned to see a brown robed figure getting out of an old dirty speeder. Luke recognized the man at once; he was the crazy old hermit that lived by himself; Old Ben jumped over the side of the speeder with agility that seemed too young to belong to a man of his age. He ran towards him. “Luke!†the old man called. “Old Ben?†Luke said, more confused than anything. “Luke!†the hermit said, grabbing his shoulders and face, “Luke, thank goodness you’re alright.†“Wh-what?†Luke said. “I had thought that you had died,†Old Ben said, taking the young man and guiding him towards the speeder, “I came as soon as I heard about the attack on your moisture farm.†“Why?†Luke asked, tears starting to swell up, “Why did they do it?†“It wasn’t your fault,†Old Ben said, “They…they were just in the way.†“In…in the way…†Luke choked, “They…they were just in the way…?†The old man shook his head, “This are hardened criminals Luke…they don’t care who gets in their way. Your aunt and uncle were unfortunate.†“What…what do I do now?†Luke asked. “A good question,†Ben said, “I think…I think it is time that you learn about your father.†“My father?†“Grab what you need,†Ben said, “I don’t think Tatooine is safe for you anymore.†------------------- The Columbia arched through the sky as it aimed itself towards the palace. Kirk sat at the helm, adjusting the controls and preparing for the impulse jump. Spock had already adjusted the shuttle’s inertial dampeners and increased power to the hull plating. Taking in a deep breath, he adjusted the flight path slightly and then tapped the consol. “Columbia to Enterprise,†he said. “Enterprise here captain,†Sulu said. “Have you programmed the firing sequence into the computer?†Kirk asked. “It’s in captain.†“Light up the sky Sulu.†“Aye sir.†Far above the planet, the Enterprise was maneuvering, preparing for a quick attack run as her two forward phaser banks lit up. Quick, quarter second pulses of blue lines erupted from the flat under section of the saucer section. Too far away to see, Kirk confirmed by his scanners that the Enterprise had hit every single mark. The fighters and numerous craft that patrolled the area each erupted into balls of flame as the Enterprise fired again and again. Then several shots on the fortress hit the shield generators surrounding the fortress, followed by two proximity pulses set to stun, taking out any infantry surrounding the base. “All target neutralized captain,†Sulu reported. “My thanks Sulu,†Kirk said. “Good luck sir.†Kirk smiled and punched in the command. Instantly the Columbia was shot forward, ripples of flames passing over her hull as she shot forward like a missile. Kirk smiled, knowing he was probably lighting up every sensor in orbit for the second time in the past few hours. It didn’t take long for the temperature in the cabin to begin rising, despite Spock’s attempts at keeping them under control. In minutes, they were all sweating, save for the science officer, who seemed relatively unbothered by the abnormal heat. Perks of growing up on a planet covered almost entirely by a desert, Kirk thought to himself. He glanced down at Spock’s instruments; less than a minute to go. Reluctantly, he tore his eyes off Spock’s instruments and kept his eyes on his own; he had enough troubles. He adjusted their course slightly and boosted the power to the thrusters to allow for a faster turn. After an eternity, his first officer broke the silence, “Approaching destination in approximately twenty seconds. Begin de-acceleration process.†Kirk quickly adjusted the setting that he’d programmed in about half an hour ago. The shuttle’s impulse engines dropped to half impulse as he prepped the forward thrusters for everything they were worth. The Columbia rocketed towards the ground as the palace quickly came into view, “Eight seconds.†Spock warned, “Seven…five…†Kirk killed the power to the impulse engines, but kept the mass of the shuttle down for several seconds as he punched the forward thrusters. The small fission based rockets roared in defiance as they tried to fight against the amazing speed of the shuttle. The shuttle began to slow, but it wasn’t slow enough. “Prepare for impact!†Kirk warned. The Columbia scraped a large hill of sand, kicking it thirty meters into the air as it plowed through the mid part of the one behind hit, blasting a huge crater as it half buried itself in. Kirk had been rocked back and forth. The emergency lights on the shuttle had come on and smoke filled the cabin. “Venting smoke,†he heard Spock report, “Structural damage to the shuttles nose and skeleton.†Kirk shook his head, “Causalities?†he called back. “We’re all here Jim,†He heard McCoy call back; “Although, I think crewman Thomas took a bit of a hit to the back of his head. He’ll be fine though.†“Forward thruster one has burned out,†Spock reported, “Forward thruster two is on emergency reserves, but is still functional. Heavy thermal damage to the impulse engines sir.†Kirk nodded, “Okay, we’re going to gently push our way out.†He warned them, “Then our two pilots will take over and get the Columbia as high as they can before the Enterprise tows them back to safety.†Kirk didn’t wait for a confirmation and punched in the command. The shuttle jolted and slowly pushed itself up as the last of the fission thrusters pushed her free of the sand dune. Shutting off and hoping that the pilots wouldn’t need much more to get out of the dune, he signaled for the team to follow him as he opened the hatch of the Columbia. Despite the heat of the hot desert air, it was much cooler and welcoming than the cabin of the Columbia. Kirk and four security members followed him out along with Spock and McCoy. Spock quickly scanned the area with his tricorder, “Captain,†he reported, “Your plan was a success, we are close enough in that the laser defense grid and the plasma turrets will not be able to reach us.†“Good,†Kirk said, “Let’s not wait for them to catch up with us,†he said. He mentally calculated how long it had taken; about two or three minutes since the initial attack by the Enterprise. They’d still be confused. “Alright you two,†he yelled as he lifted the shuttle door to close it, “As soon as we’re clear, get the hell out of here.†He shut the door and allowed it to seal before turning to his team. One of his officers tossed him a phaser rifle and he quickly adjusted it to a higher level. They were going in as heavily armed as the Enterprise’s armory allowed. He was going to show Mister Fett what happened when you messed with one of his crewmen. He struggled up the side of the dune to Spock’s side, who was busy scanning the area with his tricorder, “The stun did its work captain,†the Vulcan said, “my readings indicate that all biological life forms outside of the structure have been stunned.†“We have maybe an hour before it wears off Jim,†McCoy said, “We need to get in and out fast.†Kirk nodded and then turned to the security officers, who were busy setting up the photon grenade launcher, “Hurry gentlemen, every moment counts.†“Almost ready captain,†Ensign Jason said as he adjusted the small launcher, “…okay, ready to load.†He shoved the small blue, perfectly spherical grenade into the back of the launcher. He made another slight adjustment and then a fired. A blast of smoke erupted from the front of the launcher as the grenade was fired in a large arch, hitting the large steel doors square. The five of them turned away as a bright explosion erupted, the sound of steel being torn away echoing through their skulls. When the light had dimmed, Kirk opened his eyes to see black smoke and waves of sand rising up from where the steel doors had stood. Not wasting any time, Kirk, Jason, and Spock were over the dune in a second, charging at the smoldering hole. McCoy was right behind them, with Ensign Donald packing up the photon grenade. The three of them reached the left side of the building, Jason and Kirk adjusting their phaser rifles and cautiously moving towards the entrance. “No life signs captain,†Spock reported. Kirk nodded. Glancing back, he saw Donald only several feet away, quickly trying to adjust his rifle for battle. Nodding to Jason and Spock, Kirk turned and pressed his way into the clearing smoke, the heat washing over him as he stepped over the large, blackened, broken metal doors. The hall was large and filled with boxes and crates. The explosion had torn away some, showing that many of them were empty and others contained sand bags; a choke point. If they hadn’t struck the base so hard and quickly, no doubt the entire hallway would be full of soldiers by now. As it turned out, there were some at least. Half a dozen bodies were sprawled across the room; their bodies full of metal shrapnel or scorched from being too close to the explosion. At the end of the hallway it split into a T. Giving a signal to the others, he and Spock took up one side and the security officers took the other side. Falling to a crouch, they made their way slowly over to the edges. “Multiple life forms on either side sir,†Spock warned. “Stun grenades?†“A good choice captain.†Kirk signaled the command to Jason and then pulled free a small, silver grenade with a single button at the end. They pressed down on the grenade, holding on it long enough to activate them. On the silent count of three, the two of them threw their grenades into the opposing hallways, bouncing them off the walls. There were a bunch of screams just before the grenades exploded, causing the building to shudder. Kirk gave the signal and the two teams leapt form hiding, their phasers pointed at the unconscious bodies of over a dozen men. “Clear!†Kirk yelled. “Clear!†Jason returned. “My tricorder readings are homing in on human life signs.†Spock said, “Approximately one kilometer below us.†Kirk’s face was grave, “A dungeon?†“A logical assumption,†Spock said as he adjusted his tricorder, “Without a closer look, I cannot determine if she’s down there.†Kirk felt his blood boil. Biting the bottom of his lip, he turned and started walking down the hall, “Then let’s get down there and see.†The other four followed Kirk down the hallway, turning to the left, the hallway clear of any reinforcements, “My scans show that the fortress is still in disarray captain.†Spock said, “But it won’t be long before they figure out what has happened.†“Anyone nearby?†he asked. “No captain,†Spock said, “Scans indicate that most of Mister Hutt’s forces are falling back towards the center of the fortress. Regrouping, my guess.†“Maybe,†Kirk said, “Or maybe they’re moving to defend their employer.†“Possibly.†“How about we stop focusing on these backwater crooks and worry about Shelby?†McCoy snapped. “The positioning of our enemies is no small matter doctor,†Spock said, “Next left captain…strange.†Kirk turned the corner down toward a narrow hallway, where two large steel doors of the elevator sat. The hallway was dark, the lights overhead having failed, “What’s interesting Mister—†There was a loud click and suddenly flashes of red erupted through the dark hallway. Kirk threw himself to the side, narrowly avoiding the barrage of super-heated plasma as it flew into the wall behind him, blowing small black fist sized craters. The turret adjusted its barrel towards the prone captain. But Kirk was faster. He raised the barrel of his rifle and fired blind, praying that the rifle would adjust itself. The azure blue beam pierced the darkness marked the side of the turret. A bright spark erupted from the steel casing, the entire turret exploding a moment later as the ceiling piece fell down, sparks snapping across the ground on impact. Taking a deep breath, Kirk rested his head on the dirty metal floor. “Are you alright Jim!?†Bones said, rushing to his side. “I’m fine Bones,†Kirk said as he sat up, “I was fortunate.†“Apologies captain,†Spock said, “I didn’t recognize the power signature.†“How could you miss that?†McCoy demanded. “The fortress took heavy damage to its power grid when the Enterprise brought down its defense screen,†Spock explained, “There are over three dozen unexplained power anomalies in this building.†“Are you saying they could have over thirty more of those things throughout this base?†Kirk asked. “Possibly, but unlikely.†Spock said, “This seemed to be guarding a significant investment on Mister Hutt’s part. I suspect that the dungeon is beyond here.†“Then let’s get going.†Kirk said as he got to his feet, “Warn me about anymore power anomalies Mister Spock. I don’t want to take any risks.†“Aye sir.†“Risks?†McCoy muttered, “We’ve invaded the fortress of a crook and he’s worried about risks?†Kirk grinned as he started down the hallway, carefully stepping around the now burning turret and making his way to the lift. On the side of the lift was a control panel with three red lights and a keypad. The red light was flashing. “A security lock,†Spock said explained as he examined it. “Can you override it?†Kirk asked. “I believe so,†the commander said, “But it will take time.†“Do it.†---------------------------- “Shields are gone!†“Auto-defenses are offline!†“Get them up!†“I can’t, the relays are shot!†“You’ll be shot if you don’t get them up!†“I can’t get any of the dunelizards on communications!†“You’re shitting me!†“Sensors? Do we have sensors?†“Fifteen minutes! Whatever hit us scrambled the emitters!†Boba dragged himself up from the floor, his head still spinning. Large, rhino-like men now flanked Jabba, large heavy blaster rifles held in one hand and rusty axes in the other. The crime lord himself was visibly shaken, the large, red-orange eyes darting from shadow to shadow. The lights flickered on and off showing that large portions of the ceiling had fallen down, crushing one of the dancers. “The hell happened?†Boba asked a passing engineer. “We were attacked.†Boba rewarded the idiot with five across the face, “I know that,†he snapped, “Details!†“I-I don’t know,†the engineer said, grabbing at the back of his head, “Sensors are out and our defenses are down. We’re trying to get them back online now.†Suddenly, the lights stopped flickering, “Back up generators stabilized.†One of the engineers from the corner said, his hands flying over a console, “Sections eight and seven are still offline though.†Boba turned and walked over to the engineer, peering over his shoulder, “Can’t you get them back on?†he asked. “We’re trying.†He said, “Half the power grid in those two sectors is completely blown.†“What about the plasma turrets or the laser defense grid?†Boba asked. “Sectors nine through twelve are all completely blown sir,†the engineer said, “It’ll take us months to rewire them.†“Shield?†“It overloaded. Half of the capacitors are down and the generators are shot.†“We don’t have any back-ups?†Boba asked. “The primary and back-up generators were both blown when the shields overloaded,†the engineer explained. “We don’t have any other back-ups?†Boba asked. “There are the two portable generators in storage,†the engineer said, “but they’re old fissions. They’re not gonna be up to the task.†“Better than nothing,†Boba said, “How long will it take to fully recharge the capacitors?†“An hour,†the engineer said. “How long can you have it ready?†“About half an hour.†“You have ten minutes.†Boba said, lowering his voice to a whisper, “I suggest you run.†The engineer let out a squeak, grabbed two others, several large thugs, and abandoned the room. Turning, Boba approached Jabba, who sat in the middle of the chaos, but the crime lord’s confidence had returned, “This is their captain’s work.†He said. “My thoughts exactly,†Boba said. “He’s here for the girl,†Jabba said, “As long as we have her, they will not fire again.†“Agreed,†Boba said, “But we can’t stay here. We have to evacuate. We can signal our ships in orbit and have them delay their ship while we escape.†“Security breach in sector six!†one of the engineers yelled, “Lift A-3 has been remotely activated.†“What?†Jabba snapped “It’s Kirk,†Boba said, “He’s come for the girl.†“He will pay for this.†Jabba growled. “In time,†Boba said, “Right now, you need to evacuate. The moment they get that girl to safety, they’re going to start firing again.†Jabba nodded and signaled one of his aids, “And what about you?†Jabba asked suspiciously. “To get our prize,†Boba said, “As soon as I get her, I’ll take her aboard Slave I and scram.†“Meet us in sector delta,†Jabba said. “Yes sir,†Boba said.

Correction. Authors do have certain rights regarding the nature of their fanfics. Original plots, characters, and so forth do belong to the authors who write them. For example, if I write a fanfic concerning a crossover between say Star Wars and Halo, then Bungie and Lucas Arts simply can't rip off my story, even if it uses their characters/setting. That doesn't mean that any crossover idea you have can't be taken (were it ever likely) by them, since it is their property to begin with, but no one can rip off your story/characters legally. Just a note.

    Forerunners Vs. the Galactic Empire

Forerunner weapons should be more powerful, but SW does have more guns. A full blown Forerunner ships should have low double digit megatons at least and it seemed higher with a group to support it. I'd have to double check legacy again. The Empire however, has weapons in the hundreds of KT, at most about a megaton. And that's their ISD, of which they only have 25,000 of. The massive bulk of their fleet is based around much, much older ships with signifcantly less firepower. As in, an ISD is politically considered a line due to its firepower. In reality, it's actually rated as a battle squadron. Those generally consist of 1-2 dozen ships, depending upon its composition. The SSDs should be more powerful than anything the Forerunners have though, but then again the Empire only has four of those.

    Forerunners Vs. the Galactic Empire

I agree with the conclusions that everyone here as reached. Let's just look at this. 1) Industry The industrial capability of the Forerunners is one of the highest you will see in Sci-fi. They built giant ring worlds that rival the size of a planet and even hollow planets themselves. The Empire required massive amounts of funds and slave labor to be funneled into the first and second Death Star. In short, the Forerunners greatly outpace the Empire. We also see that there are planet designed with automated ships and presumably more could be constructed. I do believe it held thousands of ships--and that was only ONE of their facilities. We're probably looking at hundreds of facilities. 2) Firepower Even going with just Covenant firepower and capabilities, the Forerunners have an advantage. Going with what we've seen of their defensive drones and the Legends of ship power, we can probably presume far greater firepower advantages. In short, the Forerunners have the numbers and the firepower. 3) Ground Ground combat is firmly in the Forerunner's advantage. We've seen weapons that have dealt significant damage to large cities and we're told that their Combat Skin is about six times more powerful than that of the Spartan II--and we're later told that even the upgraded III model was still so close that Guilty Spark didn't even think that he'd gotten an upgrade. 4) Random Technological The Forerunners, no doubt. The capability to kill of an entire galaxy and then reseed it is far, far beyond anything the Empire can do. Not to mention the minature star that they constructed. Conclusion: The Empire is fucked in ways that cannot properly be described by man.

    The Story of Jason

Heh, cute. Still, the ending was a bit anti-climatic. It should have ended with us using the greatest combination of magic and technology to seal him here in order to keep his stupidity from spreading throughout the internets...

    Doctor Who Science Screw-Ups

Have we? My response didn't address any of the points, save for the misunderstanding. Why then, would it matter? Um, I love both of those shows. I just get annoyed when they pay lip service and do so in an overbearing way. The good can outweigh the bad and thus I can still find enjoyment in something. ...What? Why does it matter? They're minor issues. ...what? See? No need to get angry. And that's my problem too, but not just for the reasoning of bringing them back. Or rather, justification. The fact is, the Daleks are pussies. The entire new series have transformed them into nothing more than soft-core pussies. Due to the poor choices of the head writer, he took all of the lasting fear power of the Daleks away. How are we supposed to take an enemy seriously when the Doctor eradicates their entire species at the end of a two parter? There's absolutely nothing there to help me take the Daleks as a serious threat. I mean really, the biggest f*ing twist of Victory of the Daleks was that they actually won. Which sounds strange given that the title gives it away, but really, we never expect the Daleks to get anywhere. It's shitty writing. No one's going to be fucking suprised that the Daleks are back if you keep bringing them back. And it doesn't show us that they're super smart or that they're incredibly resourceful. It just shows us that they're fucking lucky as all hell. The writers need to learn that you can't keep bringing back overpowered races. Keep them realistic and keep them threatening. The Cult of Skaro was horribly, horribly abused here. They should have never of killed them off like that. They should have kept them around as a lasting threat; the Cult and the Doctor constantly in a struggle. One side trying to restore themselves and the other trying to prevent them. I couldn't agree more--and Season 1 of nDW suggested exactly just that with Rose's father. That even though he was considered a worthless nobody, his death still did significant damage to the world. But as the series progressed, this has almost seemed to reverse itself. Mind you, this was in the hack era of the series, so I'm not faulting the new writer, who seems to have a better handle on it. I'm well aware of the definition. I just have no idea where you got that impression from. It's a thing I have. I hate it when people claim that Christians have better marriage rates because apparently God watches over them, even when such a thing is not true. Nor do I appreciate it that some consider themselves morally superior to non-Christians. And yet, I'm a Christian and I place a great deal of importance on many of the core values, even if I don't agree with the entire dogma itself. ...My major has no bearing on my opinions, I assure you. I recognize the importance of all fields. I just don't like it when a show is obviously giving head to a specific one. Not that they're trying to show the importance for the sake of the story or the message, but delibertly just sucking someone's cock. I'm well aware who he appeared to. But it's a fucking slap in the face to the head of the government when you just basically said that they're too stupid to respond with any sort of reason--to which we see is absolutely incorrect in this instance. And it wasn't that they appeared to her because they thought that she was the most capable of understanding of all the people in the government. My problem is this: That, is a load of fucking bullshit. This isn't a society that's in the middle ages. It's a society more advanced than our own today. And yet everyone is implied to having a hard time accepting their arrival? It's insulting to everyone who isn't a scientist. No he isn't. I mean sure, Season 1&2 the writers had him acting like a asshole, but when they actually got some competent writers, he quickly did a three sixty. Similar to how the Doctor's character was originally a selfish, arrogant asshole. Eh? I had no problem with that. You misunderstand. I love TNG and Star Trek in general. But there are some tropes that bug me. You're taking them way, waaaay out of porpotion. ...I was agreeing with you. The fuck? This is a general conversation. If I misunderstood something you said, you should just calmly address that then go flying off the handle. ...and that's my fault? Or maybe it's just a misunderstanding? Your immediate response to what you clearly percieved as a clash with what you wrote was to basically accuse me of being dishonest. Why would I do that? Why not ask what I mean or tell me that I got what you said wrong. Instead, even after I try to explain I misunderstood your position, you're still flying off the handle, accusing me of being a moron (because apparently if you misread something, you're automatically an idiot or dishonest). You're overreacting.

    Doctor Who Science Screw-Ups

Holy shit, did you sit on a fucking stick today? How about you stop being a fucking, overbearing prick. Dude, take a fucking chill pill. The post was strung out and rather long, so I cut it for space reasons. This isn't a debate and since I never actually had an issue with your stance, addressing it would be pointless. My point isn't the use of scientists or that scientists are bad. I'm simply annoyed at the idol-worship that some sci-fi shows stick in, as if scientists are walking gods. Yes, I'm talking about the fucking minor characters. You know, those ones? The one that the Doctor goes preachin go on to 'be exceptional', because God knows there was nothing amazing about them before. I haven't said anything regarding the fucking main characters. I don't care if they're ordinary--in fact they're required for the fucking show to work properly for any length of time. Ie, without a companion, kiss 70% of the information the audience is handed because there's no one there to have things explained to them. Stop taking a narrow annoyance of a few shows and the way they occasionally preach as meaning that I'm attacking the show. I love Doctor Who--sure, I disliked Rose and hated Martha with a burning passion, not to mention the last two or three seasons of Doctor Who (not the fifth and the special season mind you). And I hated the show for then for its shitty writing, over the top killing of extras that you had JUST enough time to get attached to (so as to get an emotional rise out of the audience--specifically for that purpose), the Doctor cutting his wrists (generally, wasting the talent of David FUCKING Tennet!), the horse shit idea that you always have to commit genocide on your enemies to win (because you know, they couldn't just be crippled or weakened--no, no. We've had the Daleks come back from nothing like three times through the first four seasons?), and general other ass hatery on the part of the head writer. I never said that nor did I say it was bad. I don't mean being insignificant is good--what I'm refering to is Earth shattering important. God-like famous. They've had the Doctor preaching about people needing to be 'exceptional', ie, above the crowd. As if you can't live a happy and fulfilling life as a person. On what? I don't deny that scientists, famous/exceptional people, and so forth are bad, nor do I dislike these shows shows. My problem is that when people push certain groups above what they are in reality. Ie, that scientists are the dreamers that are always making advancements in technology and understanding. Yeah, that does happen. But that doesn't make it the default for a scientist. *sigh* No. English Major, but not at an MIT. Nor do I understand what you're getting on about. I'm not saying that anything these shows show as good is wrong. My problem is the near worshiping levels for scientists. Again, look at my examples like TNG's First Contact. Picard decides that instead of going the local government, he decided that a scientist would be better and to parphrase 'more open to possibilities, more intelligent, and capable of understanding', as if anyone else is too fucking apeshit backwards and stupid to be capable of understanding aliens and respond rationally--or that scientists are always going to respond rationally. It doesn't mean that you can't go to a scientist, but the idea that someone in a government that is superior to the technology we have today is going to be incapable of responding rationally (after the shock) is simply insulting. That's my problem. That only scientists can solve issues...because they're scientists. That's not true in the real world. Engineers and many corperations help advanced companies in many waays that scientists don't. That's my gripe. I have absolutely no idea why you just went apeshit about all this.

Meh, I'm only in the 'Pansy Group' simply for the sake of not having my posts and avatars edited. I also found the reputation points somewhat annoying, since for several people here it seems to be their best attempt at a counter argument; gang up on one guy and he looks like an idiot. It's basically like voting in an argument. Never really liked it. But mostly it's so people don't mess with the profile. It's just not worth my effort to keep up a massive, group-friendly post count simply for the sake of my peace of mind.

    Doctor Who Science Screw-Ups

Hey, that's what I understood it to say. Excuse me as I chop off half of that. Now, you clearly misunderstand me. I don't mind watching something interesting. That's fine. I like that. I encourage that. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. My problem is that small, one off characters in just about every sci-fi show are potrayed as taking to a field of science out of some sort of burning passion/influence/something. Or that only extrodinary people can lead happy and fulfilling lives. DW and ST are notorious, though the former tends to piss me off more. They repeatedly take ordinary, simple folks and then basically tell them that they need to be special or they're failed at life. And these characters are only there to preach to the audience about how amazing SCIENCE is. It's insulting. As if acting like only scientists are visonaries or those that are entirely apply themselves to the name of science.

    Doctor Who Science Screw-Ups

Oh please. Sci-fi gives scientists such a blow job that it's a wonder why nerds don't get laid. Star Trek and Doctor Who are both shameless in this regard. It's always the scientists, the gifted, the dreamers, and the like that are special. If you live an average, common life then you're living in a hole. If you don't do something EXCEPTIONAL, then it's apparently a waste. And it's always that scientists are looking up to the stars to be inspired and such bullshit. Or that it's always the scientists who're the best to go to because they can apparently handle strange things better than us simpletons. TNG's First Contact episode was full of that bullcrap. Oh? Go to the government leaders and present ourselves? No thank you! We're going to some scientist...because...because only a scientist could possibly believe in a world where aliens exist! It's a load of bullcrap.

    Doctor Who Science Screw-Ups

It's not only amazingly stupid in what they claimed--but even more so when you see two seasons later, that there's apparently an entire race of dino people living down there. Naturally they find a massive fucking drill to be a gesture of war, but not massive fucking nuclear weapons that would destroy all life on Earth. In other words, they were blowing more smoke out of their ass.
  23. There's a major difference. Breen Energy Dampening Weapon This is basically a weaponized verson of what we see throughout the later part of a franchise. Basically, a dampening field acts as a means to supress or drain power from a weapon or device. This has been used by multiple species, up to and including the Borg. The Breen weapon seems to act as a weaponized form, draining power from the entire ship and scrambling the computer cores. Basically, it drains the ship of power and scrambles its computers, so even if you could get it to jumpstart, you'd be doing jack shit. SW Ion Cannons Sw Ion Cannons appear to act as a means to disrupt power flow and computer functions. When we see them hitting targets, we see massive power surges and complete power failure. ST Ion Storms Yes, ST ships can be vulnerable to ion storms--but it takes fairly large ones to harm a starship and for the most part they're unquantifiable. So it is possible for an ion cannon to harm a Trek ship? With enough power, sure. Is it likely from an SW weapon? Unlikely, although the Malevolence could probably do it...although given how fucking impossible it would be to hit an ST ship without it being in either spitting ranges or incapable of movement is a mystery to me.
  24. Well, I think it's time we get to work to quantify the ISD, maybe even sticky this so the information can be ongoing and we have a reference to look back to. So, anyone want to start?

    Trek shield strength.

Because it's silly. 90 photon torpedoes? That thing would have to be using some rather outdated photon torpedoes for that to work.
