Possible solution to the problem that is Abrams' STAR TREK for fans who didn't like it.
Superanna replied to Afishymeadow's topic in The Nexus
There is always the 'go back in time and fix everything- except the stuff you like' route. But i personally find those a bit annoying. And that doesn't seem very likely. Abrams does not seem to subscribe to the Roddenberry optimistic vision of the future - where everything works out in the end. Also complex characters and dark realism are very popular right now so I don't foresee many pat resolutions to the new story lines. Of course you never know, anything is possible, maybe the next movie will have tribbles! -
First plant eating spider discovered.
Superanna replied to Afishymeadow's topic in Vulcan Science Academy
That is very cool. It is the first true spider that is an omnivore. Although it is worth noting that olpiliones (like daddy long legs or harvestmen) are also omnivorous. They do not possess fangs or venom though. I did not notice if this spider Bagheera kiplingi had venom. It would be interesting to find out since the main use for a spider's venom is to immobilize prey. Although it would still be useful for defense. Thanks for sharing this I am very interested in spiders as well as insects. -
I know everyone is always down on ST Voyager but I love it anyway. It has everything; Borg, Tuvok, Chekotay, even Seven of Nine for the Guys. Always entertaining with just enough camp to be real Star Trek. And Janeway is definitely awesome, the scariest size 4 woman I've ever seen. What is your favorite ST series?

Transport The bees to the Ferengi bridge of course, along with a compound to make them extra aggressive. While they are trying to keep the bees from stinging their earlobes, you will then have time to make repairs and escape- with your current insurance premiums maintained. We covered this scenario in basic training, where were you?

It will be in Denver at the Pepsi Center on the 18th but at $31 for the nosebleeds I will probably have to catch it on PBS.

Mine needs new maps, and in the city shops change location pretty frequently. Anytime i put in a search for a restaurant or store by name it usually results in a long drive and me getting lost. One time it kept sending me in an actual circle, it would tell me to get off at one exit, turn right then turn right until I was back where I started etc. Very irritating. Maybe one day I will update it, but I just keep finding something else to spend the 90 bucks on.

Agree, only because I can't imagine anyone wanting to see Picard shirtless. Maybe Riker, before he replicated a few too many doughnuts. Oh wait, I forgot captain Archer, he could have pulled it off.

I just saw the new SG-U show and I am on the fence. On one hand it was kind of interesting and had some entertaining characters, but on the other hand, it was obviously trying very hard to be BSG and I found that annoying. (It was no Battlestar.)It may be one of those series you have to really be into to find engaging. I haven't really watched any of the series, but the movie was good. I may still give it a chance, if I don't have anything else to watch on fri night. Anybody else have an opinion?

I liked the casting too. I haven't really followed the Stargate tv shows much, but it seems like they are trying to make this one appeal to a wider audience than just Stargate fans. I also hope they don't follow BSG's model. I liked BSG very much, but I don't think it would work well with the more Sci-fi centered Stargate. BSG was more of a commentary on human nature than just a sci-fi show. Of course if it is entertaining enough I will probably like it anyway. (and exploding planets are pretty cool)

A spy novel by William Gibson called 'Spook Country'. So far not impressed. I haven't read him in awhile, his writing seemed much better when I was a teenager. The last book I read before this was 'The Life and Times of Andrew Jackson' by HW Brands. I really enjoyed it, he was a very colorful character and I really love history. Elagabalus: What is 'Demons' about? I read 'The Brothers Karamazov' a few years ago and liked it. A bit wordier than his other works though.

Wow! Such hostility! That's ok, hate on it all you want, I still like the show! My List: 1. Voyager 2. TNG 3. TOS 4. DS9 5. Enterprise Now what about the ST movies? My fav would have to be the ever classic "The Wrath of Khan". I just can't resist the campy goodness! And by the way, to 'StarDestroyerAvenger'- EEEWWW!

WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT MAX REBO OR MOT THE BARBER?
Superanna replied to It`s Tomtrek!'s topic in Versus Debates
Mott, as long as he doesn't get scared and commit suicide first. Apparently that is what his race does. (See "Genesis Wave" by John Vornholt) -
I liked DS9 too. And Enterprise except for the stupid Zindi season.

I always like to read cheesy star wars spin-off novels but I have never paid attention to who wrote them, except of course those by Timothy Zhan (he is a pretty good writer). I just did a quick check and I realized that all the books I didn't like much, or that generally sucked were by KJA. I agree that he does not seem to understand the established characters very well and just does whatever he wants with them.It is a shame that Lucas let him lay down so much of the star wars written universe. But then again Lucas has always loved cash over quality. I know, maybe he can write the next Star Trek/X-men crossover novel. I think it would really show his talents!
